Hey. I've been running my valver on bike carbs for about 6 months now and have done about 5k with no problems so far.

However, this week I've started to have problems with my gearbox. It's getting increasingly notchy and more difficult to get into 1st and 2nd. Also, it's started to whine.

Before it gives up the ghost completely, is there anything I can do to check/prolong the life of it? Am I better off getting mine reconditioned, or buying a new box?

Also, what sort of labour charge am I looking at for fitting a new box and clutch?

had my box reconditioned and it lasted 13mnths,cost £450 with the clutch.. didnt get good value for that

off the road now as a result, and a garage is putting a used box in with clutch next week for £270,12mnths warranty

through my gearbox woes i would say put a used box on

parts and labour,its a used box so probly cost them next to nowt

its a place in birmingham,mines in next tuesday so will know more then

was going to do it myself but for the price i cant complain..

problem with reco boxes is the price in parts,a gearbox company dont charge alot in labour to strip a box and repair it,£70 or £80,its the price of the bearings,gears ect that bump the costs up
