My drivers side window stopped working the other day on my 6n polo cl so i took it all out and found that the cables on the regulator were tristed/frayed which is the reason for it to not work as the motor is fine.

To fix this problem would i be able to buy a window regulator repair kit http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-POLO-WINDOW-REGUL...#ht_2373wt_1137

and fit that to my regulator or would I need to buy a whole new regulator???

The repair kit looks like it'd do the trick

However me being a bit of a pikey replaced a length of the cable in my regulator with some bicycle brake cable that I had going spare, crimped on some nuts at either end, works a treat!

AMD man is a pikey, but he's right, that would work as a cheap effective no damage done fix.

What section of it did you replace? Would the bike cable work if I need to replace both cables that run into the mech which has the motor on?

I can't remember but it was one of the sections that went into the winder housing, bit of a pain to put it back together but as long as it's kept taught and tensioned correctly you shouldn't have an issue

Arighty nice one man, will attempt this tomorrow. What sort of thing would I wanna use to join the bike cable to the original cable?

I'd replace a whole section rather than try and join the new cable to the original, the different sections of cable are attached at each end to the window clamps and the winder mech

It's a lot easier to just have a look and see rather than try and describe it all

In order to form the ends of the cable I found a nut with an inner diameter about the same size of the cable and squashed it in a big vice, seems to be working fine for me!

I wouldn't spend too long on it though if you can't get it working, for the sake of £17.49 the repair kit would be an easier alternative, also can pickup second hand regulators for around £30

Gonna buy this repair kit or head down to a scrappy to get the whole regulator. If i was to use the repair kit how hard is it to get the cables tensioned right for them to work properly?
