Hello all

I'm John from Aylesbury Buck's (Originally Rural Co. Cork RoI)

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2763...mp;l=01a4e4771c

I'm new to this forum so no photoshop pic's yet above is my new project

No lowerning or fancy modfications ideas just standard stuff very clean and original I'm getting old you know !!

Just turned 30 this week always wanted to do up a car so this is my first attempt ..I'm not a Mechanic (Gov employee ) but i know a few bits +change my own oil and filter .... mainly HGV experience when i was an Trainee Mechanic over 10 years ago ! gave it up to work over here.

Bought off ebay for £250.00 after a viewing on a local farm - A dog used the car so it smells = Lots of dog hair ...Yukkkkkk 3 pervious Non smoker owners 2 from one family seems well maintained history til about 27,000 ish ..Cam belt/water pump has been done in 1997 so il do it prior to tarmac touching tho

My plans are by 7th Sept next year as a deadline it will be fully running - So its SORN - No MOT No TAX ,

I'm thinking about turning it into a 2 seater (Van type car ) very clean interior new seats carpet perhaps ! Nice storage area in the rear for my hobbies

Cycling / Power Kiting /Diy

Might sell it on again for a profit if i get a good offer tho !! Its mainly for the winter nights and something to do !But I'm big into cycling as well and well I'm getting Fat !!!!

So far the battery box needs welding + one new battery needed ..The car was seen and heard running by my own ears and it was sweet, leaking a bit of petrol from the carb area tho..

4 good rim and load of tread tyres need a good sand blast and paint , all rear bushings look good , bit of blowing from the center exhaust area fairly new back box tho

No serious damage to the rear petrol pipe just outer rust as far as i can tell , new front ball joint's covers needed

All the glass is nice, no leaks seen after the first wash anyway -Paint work looks smashing so far for its age ,New rear pass side light bough on ebay and haynes book.

Bodywork is very good slight few bubbles on drivers door but otherwise very very good, few bits about tho..

Hate the old dog smell tho Yuk !!

But i think its a cracking buy as last owner could not bother to weld the battery box ans sorn'd it an parked it up altho it was running

So hello all, i know the above text is a bit scatty i know but we have a 8 week old and I'm wreaked zzzz

Any tips whatsoever let me know !! I'm a novice here compared to your skills (from what i have seen on here)

John

I had an A reg 1093cc 4 speed Squareback CX - is it that weird Gold/Silver colour? The CX was a sort of specila edition that hung around on the sales line for a few years.

The engines are quite mokey for their size and normal respond well to a Gt or G40 exhaust system along with a little play with the mixture and the timing! :) I kept mine for over 2 years!

Its an A reg A200MKV (Nice plate on it )

Its White i have a few pic's if you click on my facebook link to view it if you like

I think it will be lovely its just finding the time and cash to do it ...As always

I moved to Aylesbury in 1978 and left in 1987, went to Elmhurst infant and middle schools, some family still live there.

Nice MK2, they were built incredibly well at that time, and even today a typical A reg example is likely to have less rust than a typical Polo which is 15years newer!

i seen this car wen i was looking for 1

Aye its got a lovely reg A200MKV (Mark 5 !)

Got my better half on back to get rid tho ..but something tell's me it a good old car ..Just cleaning ti at the moment and getting parts ..Needs two new front seats id say

He took it off ebay for me as it had over 90 watchers and only i had bothered to called him after 4 days on ..Early bird and all that

Your not wrong MikeyMK .. powerwashing it a few days ago and there is hardly any rust ... Infact none almost ..

First Welcome to the Forum.

I would suggest you start a new build thread in this section https://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/46-mk2-polo/ and then put a link on this post to your new thread
