is switching my airbox to a cone filter a 'performance modification' in the eyes of the law/insurance companies?

and if so, i presume i have to declare it, can anyone advise me what this is likely to cost if anything?

(for the record i'm with admiral, who from what i've heard have a good reputation for being kind on small mods)

Yep tis a mod, shouldnt cost much, but varies from company to company

Although initially i ran around undeclared on my filter and kept all the standard piping in the boot But now its all above board i'm looking into a BMC, since if its declared it might as well be a proper decent one

I personally wouldnt bother declaring it. Though the best thing to do would be to phone Admiral up and ask if it increases the premium. Though do this before putting it on

Definitely declare that. If an insurance assessor looks under your bonnet, it'll stand out a mile.

Any decent company who knows what they're talking about will realise it's not going to make that much difference and may mark it as a "cosmetic" mod. And not charge you extra.

Not trying to influence any decision but...if an insurance assessor actually bothers to turn up and do anything more than quickly glance at a 20 year old Polo 1.0 worth £500 at most I'd be very very surprised!

I take the view that they'll try and find a reason to not pay out. Say, if this £500 Polo hit a £30k car.

my mate had a clio on 17s, slammed with engine mods done and a mad exhaust on it but didnt declare any of it. he got pulled by the peelers a few times and they never said anything to him.

cops in general dont bother checking if you've declared your mods unless you pissed them off or can't find something easier to do you for

I'm on the other side of the fence, its not even worth putting on your 1 litre, and itll suffer from heat-soak which means your already poor performance will be poorer
