Yes!

me

meee.

i dont give a shit if ''my mate had a crash and didnt get caught with his undeclared mods'' id rather drive my car around knowing i wont potentially lose my license for invalid insurance.

plus one of my friends is currently in prison for having an accident, which as a result of someone was killed, his mods wernt declared so now hes paying the price. id rather splash out an extra few hundred quid knowing I'm legal as apposed to ending up in a shit situation, not being able to drive etc. plus, if you have an accident with no insurance, youd have to pay for a solicitor to defend you, pay any fines etc etc, compensations, you could be like £100k out of pocked for the sake of saving a few hundred quid.

but hey, thats just my 2 pence, lots of people dont declare, 9 times out of 10 no problems, but better to be safe than sorry.

me, Brentace ftw

I never did, got pulled loads of time no one bothered, then about 7 months ago i got pulled by an arsey traffic copper and to put it in short, he took it a step further, i shit my self, and luckily nothing ever got done about it other than me learning a lesson.

In the end i changed my insurance company as the company i was with didnt allow mods, now I'm with admiral getting insured for a simirlar price with everything declared, mods only added about £200, and for the sake of £200 you may as well declare them and cover your arse if anything was to happen.

...If i said yeah I may be lying

I haven't made any real mods, so haven't declared, was hoping to get some coilies and some nice wheels, but been looking at quotes with my mate, who is taking his driving test in a couple weeks...

and i felt sick.

His insurance quote, 19 years old on a 1.4 6n was £2800... clio (1149 engine!!!) similar age was £2,700 and thats on the comparision websites!!!

My quote for my car without a curfew (i have one, cant drive between 11PM and 5AM, and have done pass plus and 1 year no claims, which in total saved me about grand) but with mods is close to £2,000...

Makes me want to just drive without insurance, i haven't got the bottle to do it, but after watching these police programmes when some pikey gets a £50 fine, seems ridiculous.

So i dont think i will even get any mods, they are just too expensive.

What's a real mod?

You have to declare everything, even stickers.

yes

engine conversion

hydraulics

rims

seats

etc etc every little thing even my tints !!

HIC FTW

Always declare mods unless u want invalid insurance!

declaring my mods saved my ass last week

don't declare mods, don't insure your car, don't bother driving the damn thing.

It's people like this who are causing premiums to increase, year on year.

irresponsible, short sighted, stupid and any other superlatives I can think of in the mean time.

not a wise question to ask on the forums that have a section in this area for a site sponser (sky insurance), if they wanted to, its quite easy to an insurer or underwriter to do a bit of trawling to find out exactly what mods you have, and what isnt covered.

my insurance premium doubled after declaring all my mods, but they have given me a bhp limit and didnt want a RR printout, leaving me free to do any further mods with no insurance premium, i just have to let them know if i change anything.

I've been declared on every car I've ever owned, and if i wasnt, i wouldnt publicly declare it on a forum.

if your going to be dodgy, at least be a little savvy.

and the mass majority on this forum will be fully declared as we are car enthusiasts, not just chavs who 'soup' up our shopping trolleys

if you cant afford to insure the mod don't do it!

brentachre has always been best for me no matter mods or vehicle

Oh right....

Well i got clear side repeaters some rear lights and some indicators, removed the 1.4cl badge thing and moved the polo badge thing, and changed my door speakers from standard... oh and a de-badged grill...

looked through the list of mods you can choose on comparison site and none of these things were on there... am i wrong in thinking this is ok??

haven't done anything else (e.g. engine changes, suspension, paint, even interior) and wont unless i can afford the insurance!

On admiral they have a section for "exterior decorations" which covers stickers, additional badges etc

Personally i think that if you can't afford the insurance for mods then you shouldn't mod the car.

cheers dude understand all the comments just please no hatrid!

shit i haven't declared my 'slow down for horses' sticker, next time i see the popo riding by i'm gonna have to blow one quick snap before they put me in jail yo!

I've got all mine declared, every time I add a modification I just call Elephant and let them know, they adjust my direct debit accordingly

i have every single mod listed. and my car is some what modified.

you run the risk if you dont - i have seen both ends of the stick quite close

1- i made an escort cosworth replica for when i passed my test and declared all mods which nearly killed me money wise but i had someone smash it up 2weeks after i finished it and the insurance paid out - after 2 visits to see the car and check all the paperwork!

2 - a lad i went to college with fitted a show roll cage to what was a completely standard saxo on hub caps! got pulled over by the police for driving at night with side lights on (by accident) and was given a producer on to which they wrote on it "rollcage" on presenting his producer at the local police station his insurance company were called by the police and they confirmed the rollcage was not declared and his insurance void. to which his was promptly arrested and slapped with 6 points!!! and because he was in his first 2 years - HE LOST HIS LICENCE!!!!!

its a game you will pay heavy for if caught!

Stories like this really bang home the point.

All the mods (what very little of them; lowered and alloys) adds about £300 to mine. I'm paying £1600 a year with 1YNC and PassPlus on a 1 litre Polo. (3rd fire and theft)

Reassuring knowing that I'm covered if I do crash.

Coop have given me a quote for £1700 fully comp on a 9n sport. Only really want to lower and and change the alloys again, but coop dont like that. Not gonna do anything undeclared, value my license too much for that.

I'm paying 3k a year with no mods declared which really brakes my minimum wage bank :( , so you can guess if I've declared mine :ninja:

£3k? jeeze. That is alot. You fully comp?

i know how you feel buddy i pay 3200 on a 1.0l
