Been trying to sell my R32 for a couple of months now,only had a few timewasters at first wanting to swap but then i've had no interest at all. Its priced pretty much the same as others yet has lower mileage and hasn't been messed about with but had no interest at all recently.

No body is buying or has been for a while now IMO a lot of people use the word recesion for to easly as an excuse to take the pee.. I recently (last week) sold a 97 1.9sdi cl it was on ebay for £350 for 1 hour 12 minutes when a local guy bought it. Last year i had a modified astra with reciets for £15k for engine box nitrous etc i sold it in the end for £2350 the whole sodden car everything, i didnt have anywhere else to keep it and the garage had been broken into twice and i thought next time they come they will vandilise it..anyway my point it is a buywers market has been fro a while and will be for a while IMO

Have a search for companies which sell your car for you but take a slight commision, they'll end up getting more for it than you might be able to do privately so once they've taken the commision your sale price might be what you were willing to sell it for privately anyway.

There is a company up near me that do that called Redline, but it's obviously too far for you as it's near Harrogate but there must be something nearby.

What have the companies such as We Buy Any Car offered?

Maybe try eBay but with a reserve price?

Can't understand that either. The used car market is so up and down. I couldn't find a TD golf estate for under £800 last year.

No Polo GTi is selling at the moment, just look at the ones for sale on this forum and UK-Polo's alone. It's the same ones from months and months ago which just eventually get taken off the market. A lot on Ebay are getting bids but are just not selling.

It happens sometimes with certain cars. Everyone is skint as fook and the Polo GTi is a specialist car and most people get put off by the gearbox issue so avoid them like the plague.

Don't forget now, the Polo GTi has reached that age where its starting to become an older/cheaper car and there are a lot of dogs about which need lots of cash spent on them.. So all people see on these forums is My GTi has broken, the gearbox died, I don't look after it so it's blown up etc..

Look at G40's for example, 6 months ago you couldn't pay less than 2.5k for one. Now loads are popping up for just over 1k.. Conversions are even cheaper! I remember when engines alone were going for 1k!!

It's also becoming a cheaper car and for around 3k there is a lot of options for similar cars which are cheaper to run or faster or more old skool etc. But for the cash you won't get a better spec in my opinion for a hot(ish) hatch.

For me the Polo Gti is either a car you really really want and have to be in the market for one or you stumble across by mistake and fall in love with it or you just day dream and want one but can't afford it.

In essence I think it's one of those cars you upgrade to, but no one can afford to upgrade. You've just picked the worse time possible to sell it; Every one is skint and no one wants a Polo Gti.. Give it a few months for winter to truly kick in and people will want a more modern car and I think the sales will pick up again.

Just be persistent, stick to your price and eventually it'll sell. Yours is a good example so worth every penny.

^Ouch.. why so much man, I'm all up for doing cars up but i wouldnt spunk money away on such things like that. Bad it does seem a bad time atm to sell cars.

Maybe because he wanted his car to handle well and be comfortable? As well as being able to adjust the coilovers without a massive fight after they've been in the rain for 10min?

Golf VR6's are cheap at the moment I've also noticed, yet mk2 gti's are on the more expensive side. Funny how the market works isn't it.

It can be a matter of weeks/couple of months and it all changes again.

I would consider putting it back to standard and selling it that way, plus you can then sell the expensive parts off it. Always easier to sell a standard car than a modified one.

i love swapping cars, I've had some cracking deals doing that.

my opinion is that any modified car no matter how little you do to it means its been raped in the eye of the normal perosn, the enthusiast can appreciate the work but want to put their own touch on it hence buying a standard one to start from scratch.

i make a pretty good living buying and selling/breaking cars but i would never buy a modified car unless it was cheap.

i recently brought a mondeo st24 rep with tax and test for 350, i abused it for a while and then sold all the bits of it. the car was in real good nick, low mileage and had a lot of wedge spent on it but was worth peanuts as its modified.

for me its amazing because i get cheap cars/parts but its never going to work out for the seller unless they are lucky.

the best anyone can do is just hold out for the boom again all cars get them like someone said about the mk2gti they were going cheap for a while and now the prices have gone right back up.

you just have to ride it out it will sell just might not sell right now.

also have you considered putting it on swapz, you might end up with a real good deal on something.

I'd rather sell as is than mess around putting it standard.
