I've gone and gotten myself a beautiful 6n2 from 2001. It's a 1.4L engine, the 16V version. Now that I've surpassed the initial joy of owning my own car, and discovered just how fun driving it fast around corners can be, I'd like to make it look a little better. Here's how it is at the moment:

A thing I'd REALLY like to do, is fit it with a honeycomb grill, but I just can't seem to find one. I've been searching google like crazy, but nothing seems to come up. I'd appreciate it loads if someone could tell me where I could get one. Since I don't live in the UK, it has to be a retailer who ships international. I'd also love to get the rear badge off and paint the black plastic the same colour as the rest of the car. Will hot water, a hairdryer and a credit card do the trick with getting it off, and if so, how do I get it back on. I'd really like to do atleast something with my car, but I lack the balls to go through with anything, considering I haven't even gotten experience with changing tires. Just a little help with what I mentioned would be welcome. As would suggestions to fun, easy, and inexpensive mods. I know coilovers alone would improve the appearance quite a bit, but having been unable to find a guide for the 6n2, and without any sort of previous experience with cars, I just don't have the confidence to go through with that at the moment.

Fitting coilovers to a 6n2 is pretty easy to be honest, me and my mechanic friend did mine two weeks ago in about two hours, the backs are ridicolusly easy as you undo the bolt through the bush at the bottom and then undo the nut on the top of the turret and it drops right out!

Fronts are slightly more difficult, there are two bolts at the bottom to undo and then you need to undo the top bolt, either by using a swan neck spanner and then a 7mm allen key to hold the centre steady as you undo the nut or just buzz them off with a air / electric powered socket gun (which is what we did!)

Couple of tips: 1) replace all the nuts and bolts with new ones as its worth doing whilst its off 2) watch the camber when you put the fronts back on! 3) do the rear shock on the exhaust side first as you'll probably be swearing at the bolt to get it past the muffler!

Failing this, most garages will do it for you fairly inexpenisely, my friends independent VW specialist garage charged me £100 to put coilovers onto my scirocco when the standard suspension broke!

With debadging the rear, you have to bare in mind that the polo badge has a little groove where it sits in the boot, which will need to be smoothed if you take the badge off. The 'Polo' bit will be fine though

Got the polo badge off. It's left a bit of glue, so I'm going to try and figure some way to remove the rest tommorow. Unfortunately, most of the guide's use products not available here, but I'm sure I'll find something. And yeah, I know. I'm not planning on removing the VW badge. Just want to get it off, spray the plastic a deeper black that matches the car, then put it on again.

Nothing much, but it'll atleast set my car apart a little bit. I've yet to see another 6n2 with a black badge here.

Came out great, I think! Just need to do the rear badge now.
