Just a thought, original plan was to put a valver lump in on bike carbs in the mk1, but a 1.4TSi has just become available and was wondering if it has been done before?? How hard would it be??

Depends on what you want to do, The valver lump conversion is all well documented in the faq.

And i have a mate who has done plenty of conversions, so hes gonna give me a hand as I'm still learning!

I think it's fairly safe to say that it's never been done and it will be very difficult indeed. Fitting the engine in the car might not be too bad, depends on how big the gearbox is and whether there's anywhere to attach the necessary fabricated engine mounts to. The real problems start when you try to figure out how to wire the thing up.

Which TSI engine is it? Is it a manual or automatic? There's 4 TSI engines available

122PS - No supercharger I think? Manual gearbox an option

150PS - Ibiza FR Auto Only

160PS - Golf GT Manual an option

180PS - Polo GTI/Ibiza Cupra & Bocanegra/Fabia VRS Auto only

Yea the wiring would be a right pain, if it were me doing this conversion, I'd swap the dash and entire running loom as well, not a small task.

it would take a lot of skill and knowhow to wire this in, as said above it would be a lot easier to just swap the whole loom into the mk1 although even tho this is the easier option it isn't going to be easy.

although saying that it would be a great conversion if you can get it to work, and nothing is impossible...

There's also the Mk5 Golf GT 140 and 168 bhp versions too isn't there? Quite a few variations!

they are turbocharged..

i doubt very much it will fit the engine bay tbh, it's a fairly large engine... plus it will be near on impossible to make it run without the clocks and ecu

Yes, as opposed to being both turbo and supercharged like the others. :) The block is still the same as the mk4 is it not? This block will physically fit into a mk1, whether everything that goes with it does is another matter...

Yep. They use an 02* style box so not gonna be a drop-in-and-go job.

The block is still the same as the mk4 is it not? This block will physically fit into a mk1,

i imagine the block on it's own would fit yes, most of the mounting holes are in the same place etc... but it is not the same as a mk4 block, the tsi engines use chain driven camshafts and there a numerous other differences, the interesting thing i'd like to see is wether they have decent strong conrods in them, i've never stripped one of these engines down yet.. would be nice if the pistons and rods fitted an AFH valver
