I need some advice.

So I have a MK2 bready A reg love it to pieces, got no rust and barely any miles for age etc but it needs a few things doing to it, like it keeps cutting out at low revs etc.. I have a bit of money saved up so don't know wheter to keep it and fix it, or sell it and put the money together to get something else? I do love her and dont want to get rid but just don't know what to do for best?!

you answered your own question, keep the bready :) I thought about selling mine and would've regretted it. it shouldn't take much to fix the cutting out issue, and other small things! do you have any friends who are mechanics?

Yeah I got one of them to look at the cutting out thing and he said its to do with the carb either needs cleaning out or a new one but he said he wont be able to do it. He's done something to it to stop the problem for now, sounds like I constantly have my foot on the accelerator.

Well it could be the carb or the ignition, my old 1043cc engine did the same, but then the engine died so I put a bigger one in. New carbs can be quite expensive sometimes you can get whole engines for the same price!

What else is wrong with it?

just little things like the screen wash leaks onto the parcel shelf and other bits and bobs. The exhaust needs a bracket I think. Something could be done to the brakes as well I think as there a bit shit. Really though I can live with all of that, just the engine problems are stressing me out as no one can give me an answer when I say how much do you think its going to cost, not even a starting figure. I only have £700 to play with as well.

Mine had that annoying little cutting out problem, never really did find out the exact cause but carb cleaner, new plugs and cleaning up a few connections did the trick, theres nothing to the engines so its unlikely going to cost you, defiantly not worth selling up.

have a look at the vacuum pipes, my old bready used to cut out all the time at low revs, basically everytime i pulled up to a junction she died so i had to learn heel and toe just to keep it running.

2 of my mk2 breadys had the same problem both were vacuum pipes although the second was harder to diagnose as it got creased when i put the airbox back on wich obviously i couldnt see, once i found that out she was sweet.

Yea start with all the cheap things to replace. I think your engine will have points ignition inside the distributor, so find someone who knows old cars, get them to replace those, the spark plugs and leads, then see if it makes any difference. Also check inside the air filter housing to inspect the carb, if its dirty in there, get some carb cleaner (Wynns make some good stuff) and spray it in there while revving the engine to give the intake a good clean. Also worth replacing the fuel filter as well. These things are all pretty cheap and will help to eliminate possible causes. Replacing the carb should be last resort, check the fuses as well to make sure none are blown. You should be able to fix it up without spending much! Just don't sell it

Yeah, you will save yourself a load if you attempt these jobs yourself. That £700 you have will fix all of them problems, get you some decent wheels and a lowering kit.

Where as if you take it to a garage, it will fix the problems and erm, get you petrol to get home from the garage? lol

I have some nice bbs wheels atm and I think its lowered enough, not sure I could make it out my village if it was lowered any more lol Theres no way I could attempt these jobs myself so I may have to just take it to a garage :/
