ok so I've got a set of gti headlights, ready to put into my non-gti.

how easy is this to do? I've searched the "search" but couldnt find anything to answer my question. Has anyone done a 'how to' guide?

also, is it possible to use just normal bulbs in them? obv they wont be xenon but i dont mind about that. i bought them purely for the look of the actual headlight, and then plan on buying a xenon kit to use with them.

they headlights didnt come with bulbs so can i just put a normal bulb in, or should i buy the proper gas ones off ebay - someone said they are loads cheaper than the £90 at dealer!

please can someone shed some light

don't no much about wiring and bulbs but to put the lights on you have to take the bumper off but that's not really hard, its about 10 screws i think.

Projector lenses like the one found in the GTi lamps are designed to work with HIDs, i found when i first got my angel eyes using standard halogen bulbs was borderline dangerous because they were so dim. I now have an aftermarket 35w HID kit and it is fantastic, never looked back! So i would reccomend getting the HIDs in there. Don't be tempted by those £5 "Xenon Blue" Halogen bulbs, because whilst they are a bit brighter they run alot hotter and will melt the inside of your lenses, where as HIDs are a type of electric arc lamp so run far cooler than a filament bulb

ok so il be alright using a hid kit with them. but normal bulbs will be too dim? thanku for you are help!

would i just ignore the ballast on the actual headlight itself then? and just use them as empty headlights? (if that makes sense?!)

and which hid kit would you reccommend?

Dirt Monkey is right, but not completely the only reason the lights were dim with standard bulbs is because the FK angel eyes are crap! You can run the GTI lamps with normal bulbs, but its recommended to run HID because A: it will look better and B: There designed for HID's..I think if they were mine i would just buy aftermarket HID kit and put them on because i don't this normal 6N2's have the loom for the HID's.. Don't quote me on this..But you might aswell sell the standard GTI ballasts and fit aftermarket ones..

Dirt you had any problems with the level at which you HID's sit? Mine fails MOT every time because there pointed too far down!

yeah my bf got a hid kit off ebay for about £50 and its really good. i was planning on getting the same (obv right one for my car) but i just wanted to make sure i can use a hid kit with the gti headlights. do i just discard the old ballasts then which are currently attached to the headlights?

if i used normal bulbs until i got a hid kit, would the bulbs just fit in these headlights? i cant see where they would go?!!!

and can anyone tell me which hid kit to get?? ie what kind of bulb?

I'm not sure because i haven't seen how the GTI Lights are inside..But sell the GTI ballasts don't throw them away, put the new ballasts in the carriers, then put the bulb in and run the wires through the hole that the old wires used to run through to get to the ballast..

If not take pics post them up and ill photoshop what you need to do :)

My headlamp adjusters are broken anyways, so mine are pointing at the floor lol :( if you loosen the top bolt on the headlamp and tilt the whole unit back then you can raise the beam that way, and re tighten. I was contemplating re-drilling them to force the beams higher.

Ah yours did what mine did, i repaired the headlight adjusters but no joy to be honest..was going to DIY the lamp to figure a way to lift them inside the lamp rather then moving the whole unit!!

i wish... just trying to test them but didnt want to have to take the bumper off. looks fiddly...

4 Bolts up top, i think five-ish in each arch, 1 under each indicator and 1 under each for light grille.. Ta Dah!

Dont forget the four plastic clippy things under the front!

(unless you're clever like me and have lost most of them)
