I have lost my Polo Car Key and funnily enough I haven't got a spare key.

The car is an X REG VW Polo 1.0 e, it hasn't got central locking or anything. It is the one before the bubble shape model.

I was wondering if it has got a chip to start the engine or it hasn't?

I got a quote off a local guy and he said £130, so I am slightly cautious whether to believe whether there is a chip that needs to be programmed in the key.

I only thought the 6N2 GTI has an immobiliser.

Could you help me out

Oh I know lol, I've tried to delete the other two posts.

I just thought it was quite high, because my mate owns a 2003 Mercedes Sprinter Van, and he got his Van key cut including reprogramming for £50, by some Mercedes Locksmiths.

well for my 6n 4 years ago I was quoted £80 just to copy my key & that was not having to reprogramme it all!

Speak to a VW garage and see what they quote

My dad got his Octavia key done and coded for £35, look around for a better quote. All they do is find the code, and programme the new key to match once its cut.

£130 is way too much.

Uncut keys go for around £5-15 on ebay if you can find someone to cut and program it.

I'm in stoke if that helps, if anyone knows somebody local or within a 20 mile radius would be great.

I knew he was overcharging, he wasn't even main dealer and he asked me to tow my car 10 miles once the key was cut so that he could program it.

I am only asking on here because some people have decent contacts.

If you've LOST your key so they have to make a key to match your locks and not just copy an existing one, i think that's about right.

Nope, the do decode the key, there IS a transponder chip in the key, we will decode the key, not match to an existing key other wise pepole could find your key and steall your car, we charge around £90-110 depended on what types of key you have, I.e flip/lighted/ or normal, and that is main dealer price

Sorry mate thats too much, main dealer has actually quoted me £109 for a new key and coding. Thing is it isn't a central locking key, just a standard key with a small chip.

How much just for cutting the key?
