Hey guys, so i'm 18 and have been working since i have left school. I have been doing sh*tty dead-end jobs since i finished school and now i'm working within fast-food >.>

I applied about 4months ago for an apprenticeship within VW via the official apprenticeship website.

3 months down the line and i gets a phone call direct from the VW garage offering me a 1week trial at their garage. So ofcourse i jumped at the chance and done my 1week.

Proper enjoyed myself, and learnt quite abit! (Bearing in mind i know jack-all about cars)

Get a phonecall earlier today to say that i have been the successful candidate and now i'v just handed in my 2week notice at my current job to prepare myself for the mechanical life-style =D

I'm gunna lump out the rest of my fast-food career until xmas, then start the new year fresh and ready =D

I'd like to do an apprenticeship but i cant be doing with crap pay now I'm on something decent!

well done best thing you can ever do is a apprenticeship I've been out of my time for 2 years in airbus and its great stuff

Yeah money isn't too great, going to be something along the lines of £100 a week, but in the end i'll be sorted =D

Yeah my dad has always said to get an apprenticeship within a trade, but it just isn't as easy these days - everyones going for the same thing as you and it just makes it harder to stand out from the crowd

Iv just started my apprenticeship a couple of weeks ago with bentley, gotta go through college for 6 months at the moment - but I'm getting paid for it and it seems a really good way to learn the trade and get a good job at the end

good effort I'm at audi in my 3rd year pay is crap in all apprentice jobs though i think but stick to it!

Doing my apprentship with VW was the best decision i made to my career, not sure if its the same with the other VAG apprentices on here, but i went to nottingham for my apprentice training with VW for a week at a time about once a month, my dealer gave me a courtesy car to drive up in, fuel, payed for accomadation (premier inn nottingham city centre) and food and also was given £25 a for expenses (beer usualy) now work for

AMD and now I'm a mechanic with the touring car team

Yep that's the thing with apprenticeships. Get a good one and your company will look after you - it really isn't all about the money. When I first started my apprenticeship my wages were about the same, £100 or so a week. I'm in my 5th year of a 6 year apprenticeship now and although the money still isn't great (about £350 for a good week), the opportunities are endless. Plus, I get a payrise every year to look forward too haha. My final time served wage also isn't going to be brilliant where I work either, I'll be lucky if I make £35k in a year if I stay onshore, closer to £50k if I go offshore but I don't want to so I've already started looking at positions elsewhere to see what I can do.

With an apprenticeship you need to look at the bigger picture. If I earnt more money in my earlier years, I'd only have pissed it up the wall.

F***ing hell 350£ a week? I've never heard of sucha a figure in my life! I'm used to my poxy £5 an-hour kfc job >.>

Well done mate, trust me stick at it. I have just finished a 4 year apprenticeship working for Tubelines on the escalators on the Underground. Now got the job with tubeline/LUL and I'm only 20, a qualified engineer and on fantastic money.

Not sure if yours is the same but if is, then the amount of certificates you will pass out with will be loads. So you can always try your hand at something different later on in life.

All through my apprenticeship i was on very good money, i was getting more than £100 a weeks in my 1st year tho. But after every year you get a nice pay rise.

How long is the apprenticeship for mate?

The time will fly past and soon enough you will be qualified.

Sounds like your very happy, i just hope you don't mind living at home with that sort of pay. It costs me about £800 a month just to exist in my flat, but its so worth it haha

doing an apprentship with jag landrover, just gone into my 3rd year and pays gone upto about 265 a week, take home, which isnt too bad.

they're the way forward, paid for education, job, and no debts for uni etc

3rd year apprentice

i started an apprenticeship with mercedes-benz commercial vehicles four months ago and I'm absolutely loving it, pay is quite decent considering its my first job.. I'm on just over 900 after tax and that lasts me through the month and more so i cant complain.. have to go college 35 or so miles away though which is a bummer when i cant drive yet...

But yeah overall i feel really lucky to have got the job and be doing something i love to do for a living :-)

well done matey , I've worked at 2 garges.. one was ame ltd as a apprentice mechanic at £140 a week and then moved onto redbitz performance working on kinda cars from m5's to 600bhp scoobys! it was fun but now I'm out the trade fo one reason. dont work with the things you love!

I'm now a water enginier and I'm on about £360 a week.

Congrats, told b-shaw to apply to this a few times had them going at several VW garages within about 10miles of here for engineers and part sales on that site

that's fantastic pal, well done.

i got into rolls royce this year as an apprentice, and i can already say it's by far the best thing i've ever done with my life.

pay is shiiitee, but i have a weekend job too so i can afford the car etc.

stick with it bud.
