hello i have a p reg 1997 1.4 16v 2 door polo along the door and rear quarter it has the standard ugly bump strips! are these just glued on? and if i take them off will it need spraying underneath them? can i have some advise on best way to remove these thank you.

I am about to do the same, i have been told that they are just stuck on with glue, and you can use a glue and tar remover (spray can, or whatever) and a credit card or something like that to scratch away the excess glue with no damage to the paint work.

Also using a hair drier or something hot to melt the glue may speed up the process...

been told it takes time, and effort... but the paint underneath usually isnt too bad and may just need a few t-cuts

i haven't tried this myself, and not 100% about using heat, so do at your own risk!

i did mine a couple of days ago,easy job,just take your time and you will be fine.

all you need is:

old flexi credit/bank card (i really recommend a old one because it will get bent out of shape)

hair dryer

t-cut

cleaning cloth/rag

most importantly........time

simply slide the credit card behind the black strip to break the bond,dont worry,its only held on by foam sticky pads,then when you have lifted it enough to get your fingers behind it,gently pull it off the rest of the door and chuck it in the bin.then get the hair dryer,stick it on full heat and run it across the remaing foam residue stuck on the door.dont just point it in one area though,run it from left to right to avoid heat build up on the paint.the when the residue is warm just roll it off with your finger/thumb.after you have it all off t-cut the area and hey presto!

word of warning!

i ended up with 2 massive blisters on my thumb with rolling the residue off and your skin on your fingers/thumb will get very hot! ouch.

there are no holes :)

It's easy job if you buy Tar and Glue remover from Autoglym.

I have done my couple of months ago and no problem at all.

The 6n2 came in around 2000 (W plate) so the 1998 will still be the 6n.

Best thing is to do is use a 'Toffee Wheel' Its a wheels which goes into the end of a drill and it basically spins and rubs the glue off easily, took me about 30seconds to get whole off.

Dont worry it doesnt damage the paint!

Just because I want to be entirely sure, and cause I don't have the money to correct it if it needs extra work...

Is this really as simple as taking off the strip and T-Cutting?

I have some T-Cut Colour Max (with the little lip stick), I'm assuming this wouldn't do the same job as the colour restorer? Anyone notice any highly noticeable colour variance to the surrounding areas?
