Drivers side mirror was recently smashed but is it illeagal to have a cracked mirror so i cant see out of it?

Its not illegal. You need 2 mirrors... So inside mirror and passenger side is fine...

as above, my drivers mirrors been smashed for months after some cleft hit it and sped off =[

passed its mot fine and I've stopped by po and they said nothing because they cant!

For an MOT you require the drivers side mirror and EITHER the rear view or passenger side mirror, which is why some older cars came with just the base plates on the passenger side and why vans can have no back window aslong as they have both wing mirrors...

think its depends who you ask... or atleast it seems that way from the responses...

I've asked a few mot testers and been told you need either both wing mirrors or a rearview mirror :-)

errr, i suggest you both go read up on the MOT requirements regarding mirrors, and then reply back here.

you dont need a drivers mirrors, a passenger and rear view is sufficient.

Obligatory mirror options are: a. an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the driver’s seat)

Passenger vehicles with more than 7 passenger seats of any age, and any passenger vehicle first used on or after 1 August 1978 (not being a bus or minibus), must have two mirrors, one of which must be option ‘a’.

So, The drivers wing mirror must be fitted and in good condition for MOT.

Yup the driver side is needed and then its either the rear view mirror or passanger mirror you need.

right, well i apologise and accept defeat on that point

however mine passed at a very strict mot centre with a smashed drivers mirror, working pass and rear view.

however to answer the original poster, it will be fine, unless your tester is an analcnut

my mate who's an mot tester says it dont matter if the mirror is cracked as long as its still their and can still sort of see through it for the driver side he is a bit dodgey so dont take my word for it lol

chris 1300 will you correct or verify this for me as I'm confused now lol
