I am getting my polo resprayed but doing some of the prep work my self, basically just sading the car down to primer and then having it finished and sprayed by a lacal bodyshop.

cool. slap some nitromors on it. speed process up.

putting nitro mors on it will just send it bare metal you dont need to bare metal it. only the bits that are rusty or need filler

Nitromors would be a disaster,you need the paint underneath to show up all the dents and dings you dont know are there.

Sanding mine down soon revealed what over two decades of Englands roads had done to the panelwork,but the old paint helped pinpoint where the dollying and skimming needed to be..

Eventually you end up with something that looks like a patchwork quilt but that's when its smooth and straight. The pic of mine shows the prep unfinished despite hours of work already put in - preparation is everything,and if you rush this stage you'll compromise the finish of the paint drastically.

As you say re-spray are expensive due too the man hours that go into prep work. I'm only looking at getting it resprayed the same color and get rid of lacquer peel and rust

If you sand down and spray in primer is it protected against the rain as long as you use a good primer (red oxide). As i'm looking to use mine while it being prepped

Doing all the prep work myself which will include rubbing down.. when it gets to that point :)

you can drive it in primer, just be aware thats its pourous, so if your going to spray it, try and do it as soon as possible.

bort drove around in his in various stages of prep for months, and it still looks fantastic now (owned by tramp) and was a testament to the hard work he put in at the preparation stage.

yea i have found allot of dents in the body work but the guy who is spraying the car said he will sort them out ,i am getting the car sprayed black for 1000 pounds that is just the out side not the engine bay or inside and i am doing the prep work taking the paint back to primer.sooooo much work and doing the prep work your self is not that cheap either i have spent about 100 pounds on a sander loads of sanding paper and body filler and acid etch primer.

the guy has not seen my car since i started prepping it i don't even know if what i am doing is right lol i hope so
