thanx for those only problem is they only explain gt and g40 conversions and also only mk3s mine is a mk4

itll go straight in without much fiddling at all, we converted a 1.0l 6n to a 1.6 in an evening

Ye i think he might know its easy as they will fit straight in but i think he means will he have to change the loom/ecu and so on.

it really depends on how much or how little he is getting from the donor car.

we used everything off the original car, it was only the engine block/head and carb that were from the 1.6

So the only 1.6 8v parts you used was the engine block and head itself and the inlet carb?

Did it run fine with the 1.0 ecu? so just pluged in and went? well you know what i mean.

I'm currently look for a 1.6 8v engine at the moment as i have a 1.0 8v and want to do a change as you have done.

Cheers

its probably advisable to use as much as neccessary, such as the 1.6 ECU ideally, however it ran fine, and was still fair spritely (alot more so than the tired 1litre that was before it)

we drove it saturday too prior to taking the engine out again (cars being scrapped) and it was rate!

But if I'm gona start using other ecu's arnt i going to need the keys from that car as they are paired with the ecu and then I'm gona need the ignition barrel and door lock and so on?

Or can i just swap the ecu's over and it will be fine?

Is there a big difference between the 1.0 and the the 1.6 now.

Cheers mate

fuck knows, i dont mess about with ecus personally, i work with computers and love cars, but i dont like mixing the two.

it ran fine with the 1litre ecu , and yes it was a discernable amount of difference, enough to warrant the conversion

Sound mate thanks for the help.

Fuck the ecu off and shove it on bikecarbs

Theres a manifold for this engine (aee?) for £30 in the for sale section...

Actually, i could be wrong. would a 6n still use the ecu for other stuff in the car, is it as simple as doing a MK3?

Not realy as mine hasnt got any central locking or aircon anything but suppose the newer ones will need to.

I'm sure it will be easy on yours toby.

Duno if i want bike carbs as iv seen that philj is selling turbo manifolds for the 8v engine

oh i know its easy on mine lol.

Just wasnt sure if you can just do away with the ecu on a 6n like you can a MK3.

Ohh right got you, what else other than the engine is the ecu used for?

Clocks?

Ignition barrel, as theres a little chip in the key thats coded to the barrel right? and suppose thats coded to the ecu?

I dunno lol

I'm just thinking TURBO lol

turbo and throttle bodies.....

 lol nah think il just stick with one of them for now, when you doing your bike carbs? would be awsome with them.

Nahhh man, do um both

Not easy mind, infact neither are easy. TB's or turbo.

Whenever i can afford it.

Cant do much till after Christmas now tbh, cant afford it.

Just to add, the 1.6 will require the mounts right?

Nah dont think so, just drops straight in.

thanx for the reply so I'm guessing i wont need the loom and that the standard 1.3 ecu will work fine?????

it 'should' work with the standard ecu, however i doubt its simply 'fine', its probably best to replace with the newer one, however i dont know if theres any difference between them, I'm not really a 6n man.

all i know is for a quick fix when the HG went on the 1L of fury, was that we just straight boshed the 1.6 engine in, with the 1lrs gearbox and all other ancillaries (bar carb+mani - came from the 1.6)
