I'm looking into buying a hid kit conversion for my 6n2 but not sure on what power to go for. I want that bright blue-ish colour, I've heard it could be 6000k but just want to make sure.

I went for 6000K which is usually the default colour temperature as it's a good compromise of brightness and a crisp looking colour. The higher the Kelvin the bluer the light, but also the dimmer the light.

IIRC alot of the standard fit Xenons are 4300 - 5000K.

I'd advise going for 6000K, and in my opinion anything beyond 8000K looks way too blue and you may end up getting hassle from the police for them!

If you want a blue look, don't want to look like taxi and actually want your headlights to do what they are supposed to I would get 6000k...

Personally I would stick between 4300k-6000k.

It's all down to the lumen output (how much light output).. The best light output is between 4100-4300k (hence why most standard HID's from the factory are this temp - Although most modern cars like new range rovers use 5000k as they look better and are pretty close) - as you get a higher temperature (the higher the kelvin as in 6000k, 7000k, 8000k etc) the worse the light output is. So in poor conditions like fog, rain, at dawn and at dusk etc anything above 6000k are rubbish as headlights..

Kelvins to Lumens:

4300k = 3200lm

4300k = 2800lm

4300k = 2400lm

4300k = 2000l

4800k = 3800

5800k = 3300

7000k = 1790lm

7000k = 1390lm

8000k = 1180lm

8000k = 780lm

Mine took H7 though as I have FK headlights, which have clear glass, wasn't keen on the idea of running them through standard frosted 6N headlights.

You cant actually convert Kelvin to Lumens - Kelvin is a unit of colour temperature, Lumens are a unit of light output. Although there is usually a trade-off between the two, you can't give a conversion table like that, even just buying different brands of, say, 6kK kit would produce a range of light output values.

Why do you drive through the day with the HID's on? don't the police pull you over for that?

Volvo's use them as standard through the day and most new cars these days have day time running lights.

There's no rule saying you can only put your headlamps on at night.

Fog lights are illegal if used when it isn't foggy.

£30 fine if your running them when it's not foggy.

Pisses me off when I see people running fogs for no reason, it doesn't look cool at all and it's blinding!

I got a £30 fine in my first car, I had no choice as both headlight bulbs went half way through a journey but the Pig didn't understand that!

pisses me off to no end, even worse when you get a idiot in front of you with there rear fog on.

if i pass someone with fag lights on when it's clearly not foggy (or even during the day ffs!) they get flashed! 6K HID's + normal Highbeams usually gives them the message.

What i also want to do it wire up 4x 100w spot lights to the front of my car, they'll defo get the message then!

i have a set of 8k H4 main/dipped HID (bulbs, ballasts etc) brand new and still boxed. sold the car they were going on so if anyone's interested make me a sensible offer and they're yours
