sorry to but in but the gt gets most of its power from its low compresson so you will not realy get gt power out of it. and what bits do you wont if your puting bike carbs on??

oh bugger? really? was just trying to save having to weld in new mounts and stuff, recon i need the whole lot? everything to be honest mate, i've only just started the project so the golfs sat with just a 1.3 carb in atm, i want to keep a little engine so thought the gt would be perfect... what carb parts have you got dude?

i dont have eny carb bits. what i wos trying to say is you wont to bolt on the gt stuff to your engine.. but if you do that it will not be as fast as a gt engine..

but if you wont to put carbs on it you dont nead eny gt bolt on bits..

ah right, i get you. looks like i'l have to work out how to mount the whole engine in then :/ thanks for the help

i've read a few posts on here in a thread comparing the NZ to the GT engine and the general concensous seemed to be that the comp ratio makes little difference to the power of the gt, most of it comes from it's cam and injection system?

also if your golf is already a 1.3 then surely the GT lump should bolt straight into it? i thought all small block engines were interchangeable?

tbh tho if it's going to be a ball ache to get the Gt lump in then just stick with what you've got, my mate had a mk2 polo with the 1.3 found in mk1 golfs and that was rolling roaded at 75bhp (standard GT power), and that was only running a weber carb and a few other mods (mostly oem stuff i believe) so with bike carbs on you should be able to get as much out of your engine as you would out of a GT lump (the Gt cam might be a nice addition tho if it fits).

a gt gets its tork from its comp ratio and i am shore the mk3 golf is a tall block and all the mounts are difrent from the mk3 polo

Guessing you meant high compression? Not low...

And that's not correct anyway, The difference is only small, not enough to be the main factor of an extra 20bhp than the NZ/AAV etc.

Sure a few people on here are running gt's using AAV or NZ bottom ends (Non higher comp) and are seeing GT power.

For some reason Cheys03 comes to mind? if that's his user name?

As for bottom end in the golf, I didn't think any mk2 bottom ends were interchangeable with the polo? just the mk3? Correct me if i'm wrong.

Really appriciate the help! i'm basically after tonnes of space in the bay, I'm in the middle of and smoothing the lot, cars getting painted ibis white (audi white) then i'm painting the tiny block white too with black hoses and such, then the diddy carbs polished. Thats the basic plan, certainly a shower not a go-er! hard to justify amonst my friends 150mph+ dubs!! just basically wanted to commit suicide after driving the carbed 1.3! and i want an older engine then the 6n's 1.4 16v on carbs...

any ideas on what you think the ideal set up is to achieve this would be much obliged

so your doing this to a mk3 golf? For some reason i had it in my head this was for a mk1 lol

No no, sorry i'm doing a mk2 golf

Actually I'm sure the 1.3 mh engines were fitted to golfs, maybe the early poverty spec ones?, But I'm sure the later or higher spec ones wont be able to take a polo bottom end without modification, Wait till someone who knows more answers, What age and spec golf is it? A pic would help tbh, of the engine bay.

The 1.3's in the golfs are the same as the ones in the polos of the same age.

If it's a later hydraulic headed engine (rocker attaches with 3 studs down the middle, not 8 round the edge), and you're looking at bike carbs, the only GT part of potential use is the camshaft.

If it's an earlier mechanical headed engine, there's no GT parts worth using on it if you're sticking with carbs.

Thanks ever so much for all the help, all my pics are on my other computer, i'll get some up later. It's an 89 base model golf pretty sure it's the 3 bolts down the middle of the top of my head... i'll find out all the points which have been raised and get back to you later. this lumps comming out in the week to start work on the bay so need to work out the plan of attack asap.

Cheers

Chris
