Hi

I need to replace my Lambda sensor. My Haynes manual shows it as being on the catalytic converter downpipe. However mine is fitted to the exhaust manifold above where the downpipe fits on. The one I'm going to replacing is not an original part either, so I'm wondering why it is fitted in that place.

What is the difference if any between the two fitting places?

thats were vw put it as they want the sensor to heat up and become operational as fast as possible :-)

put it as close to the engine an possible mate, they have a heater element in the tip to get them up to temp quickly so don't worry about that, you will be kicking yourself later if you put it in the cat especially when you need to replace the cat and the probe has welded itself in
