right, first things first i have got one of the shear bolts out, I'm now stuck on the harder one which is the one on the left, I am completely stuck and running out of ideas, I've tried Drilling, smashing, chiselling and now i just want it out!!! its been months and months I've been putting it off can anybody help me!!!!

I've done this before i know they are a pain could you get a pick up so i know which one we are talking about

there are two bolts, i am having trouble with the one which is towards the passenger side, il try get some pictures but its quite dark :)

get some pics in the light you muppet lol I'm sure it will still be there tomorrow unless you have a good torch I'm on here every day anyway i still have my broken one somewhere so i shall dig it out

right are you talking about the two bolts on the steering column i think there are about nine or ten bolts on the pedal box all in all the trickiest part i found was removing the pedals have you got to that stage or past it yet

the gap space is tiny tbh you can barely fit a drill in there :/

I'm at the two bolts on the steering column and am completely stuck now lol i feel like giving up on it I've needed to do it for 6 months one bolt is out I'm down to the last one

can you still get a spanner or a socket on the nut or is it to badly damaged now

it is well and truly mashed and there wouldn't had been a chance before anyway :) lool I'm gunna just have to hope that smashing it will eventually work!!

Weld a nut to it.. if you don't have a welder find someone who does and pay them in beer.

Can you get a picture up of how "MASHED" the bolt is buddy? i cant remember how much space there is in there but cant u get a junior hacksaw in there and cut it down the middle and use a flat headed screwdriver to undo it. The way I've allways done it is to get a long punch at a good angle on the head of the screw and just keep hitting it carefully until it turns! its allways worked for me.

How about a Dremmell type grinder, a bit slow, I know but it would have done it within six months!

You don't need to drill out the sheer bolts! You can take off the slidey bit that makes the steering wheel go up and down, and drop the column from there!

And yes, it does work, but you have to bend a plate to get it out, but it's much easier than those sodding sheer bolts! I did mine about 4 weeks ago, and that's how i got it.

You have to snap the plastic clip holding the brake pedal to the master cylinder though! And yes, VW sell them and they're about 3 quid. DO NOT LET THEM TRY AND SELL YOU THE WHOLE PEDAL AND CLIP.

I remember having the argument: "Sorry sir, we only sell the clip and the pedal as one item, and its 25 pounds." Well, that's a lie.

i manged to hammer off the remaining bolt i already got the mk3 golf brake clip although i think i need a new pedal box ill post up some pictures its not what i was expecting to pull out!!!

Hi there. I'm not sure if I should be adding to this forum but need some help. I have been having problems getting my vw polo 2000 into gear. It has been to a garage who replaced the clutch cable, this made no difference at all. I have since been told that it is my pedal box. I need some help sourcing the pedal box, I have tried a couple of stockists online and they don't seem to have a vw polo pedal box.

Can somebody please give me some advice on where to source the pedal box, I live in Bradford and need it ASAP. Thanks for your help Heather

That garage Knew the Pedal Box had carried away Heather, when they supposedly replaced the cable,

my daughters '99 model went the same way, incidentally vw knew this was a problem, and fixed some later models

for free, you may like to approach your vw dealer, worth a try!

My Daughter took her car to 'Mister Clutch' who quoted £400.00, I did the job myself with my

little welder after stripping it all out, swine of a job, took me a whole week!

Thanks for the advice Dave, I managed to get the pedal box from my local vw dealer for £33.00 which was a lot less than I thought it would be. A friend of a friend has fit it for me as in the run up to Christmas I couldn't afford another big garage bill. It's great to be driving again now and was worth the two week wait to get it fixed t a fraction of the cost. Thanks again for your advice. Heather :-)
