What is this telling me?

Featured Replies

I've got an "oil" sign flashing on my mileage clock and "service" written to the left of it...Presumably something needs servicing? What is it though?

Oils probably low and its probably past its service interval. I.E 10,000 miles

Whip your hand book out and all shal be revealed!

At a guess it think it might be saying that its time for an oil service..

There's the trouble! I don't have a handbook :/ Didn't come with one and i haven't taken the initiative to buy a haynes manual.

Also, since this message has been flashing, my gearbox has been playing up big time. Not only that, but the engine was misfiring the other day resulting in me nearly being ploughed down by a 70mph lorry on the A5.

The gearbox (or somewhere in the transmission) is making a very annoying noise...kinda like a jet engine if you get my drift. The pitch alters as you change gear, but not as you change engine revs (tat's how i know it's not the engine). Any ideas?

Another thing is that after 10mins or so in 5th on the motorway at say 80mph, if i take my foot off the accelerator, it slips out of 5th into neutral without me touching the clutch pedal...Any ideas?

And this misfire thing was odd...The engine stalled on me whilst i was rolling so i thought "no big deal" and bump started it again whilst still rolling. But pulling out onto the A5...it fired, then didn't...then did again but then stopped again and it was jolting backwards and forwards really violently...Again, any ideas?

Jim.

time for an oil change :)

also sounds like there is no oil in your gearbox so it might be worth doing that too (plus finding out why the oil leaked out and fixing that).

Yeah basically your car needs an Oil change........Mine came up last week and I wanted to do it myself so I did and my GF works at a Garage as a receptionist so she looked it up on her system and printed me off a copy of how to get rid of the light...

I dont have it with me but can let you know how to do it if your interested?

Send me a PM :-)

Harry

Sounds like you need a new car.Noisy gearbox thrust bearing, jumping out of gear worn synchro on fifth. As for the missfire i would get shot.

Like you say its flashing up "Service oil" and when you press the button it stops flashing and goes to "Service miles"?

If so its just a reminder thats programmed in evey so often, thsi can be removed by yu just google it or find it on here how to do takes 30secs i can do it just cant remember exactly how, as for the gearbox and engine troubles. Change your gearbox oil and give the engine a good service with all filters, new oil, plugs and you should be fine.

Chill out mate... thats very worst scenario.

"As for the missfire id get shot" ???? Could be a worn out plug or a broken down ht lead whch are nothing really?
