Whats the impact on comfort like with poly bushes then? Looking to add some to the front of the mark 2 to improve turn in etc. However, its to be a daily, so I don't want a rock hard ride etc. Am I likely to get this with polys?

You shouldnt get a majorly hard ride, as the springs/dampers will decide how hard it is It may make it a bit harder - but nothing major

Right, thats reassuring. I have heard ride can stiffen up since the rubber in the OEM bushes takes some of the flak.

No notable difference in ride - and i use solid ally ARB mounts. Mine is a daily commuter and i have my comfort with quality dampers. Cheap uprated dampers are your only concern.

Thats good to hear then. Just that some folks on the golf forum were bitching about them. Are there any other problems associated with them, such as squeaking etc?

poly engine mountings will give you more vibration in the cockpit though

as energy cant be destroyed, less movement in your suspension components will travel elsewhere, so the redecuded damping ability compared to rubbers, will leave you with more feel through your steering wheel, especially on our imperfect british roads.

personally ill be replacing mine with standard, or g-ladersiete arms when i get round to stripping the mk2s suspension down again.

the best setup i had bar the subframe, was a set of g40 arms, with the rose-jointed inners, couple with g-lader outer tca bushes.

you do need ARB blocks if your car is lowered however, to correct the geometry.

I fancy the g40 arms yeah, but its getting hold of them. Which subframe did you have?

Just read you bit about the sus guide. What doe the steering damper do, and where does it go? I have a mk2 loon, will i need to get a later rack to fit the damper. Also, i cant afford the stage 2 sub frame, but may be able to get the stage one. What do you think of it? Also, Ged bar?

i had a stage3 pps subframe, i dont think theres any point going for a lesser one, if your spending that kinda money.

damper fits to the rack, you dont need a new rack, just the bracket.

A bracket to hold the damper aye? Is that the only place to get G items from? Just a bastard the euros so strong! And no way am i able to afford a stage 3

Its all a bit pricey really, considering the bloody thing doesnt even go yet! Apart from philj, is no-one making the ARB blocks? Surely it cant be that hard for someone. If given the dimensions, I'd have a blast at knocking a set up. must take pennies to actually produce. Or is there some expensive part in there that I've missed? I have found cheaper polybushes by a company call strong flex. Might give them a try

What, your own ARB blocks? I'm considering it myself, if i can get hold of any nylon. Where abouts do they bolt onto the car too?

They bolt to the front of the chassis legs, the right hand one has a removable mounting.

Best to get an understanding of the stresses involved with the part before considering if you're competent and able to fabricate a suitable one. If in doubt,either get a professionally made one or over-engineer one.

My ally ones have o'rings built in each side to hold the grease in,the nipple channel goes to the middle so the shim needs an adequate gateway whenever i renew it.

Oiled nylon is best as it doesn't need lubrication,make sure you use suitable steel sandwich plates to clamp them to the shell.

As ever,accidents by failed parts made by people who were not competent,just makes the government wanna ban us from doing more ourselves. You know there's some prat gonna make some out of wood.. If you dont know what you're doing,buy some instead.

Mikey, you got any piccys of your engineering excellence? Did you bother with the Locking collars like the G-laderseite ones?

Yes i put little pipe clamps either side,you need to in order to prevent the arb moving from side to side,it only takes a few mm's of sideways play to give you wayward steering as the tca's pull on it.

I'm not really too sure of where they mount, but i'm trying to get an understanding so i might make my own. Do need to research though

They're replacements. So they mount where the existing clamped rubber ones are..

Cool. I've never really understood whether they are in addition to the normal mounts. I thought they were just there to bring the ARB back into line. Thanks for the help, every day is a school day it would seem
