After a long search for a cheap 1.4 5dr polo I finally came across this 6N off egay for £565 with good service history and the belt changed at 60k, currently on 87k. Picking it up on Sunday and can't wait. To top it all off I managed to find cheap fullycomp insurance, being 18 this was a major concern. It'll be used just for back and for work so modifying isn't really top of my list of things to do, thought I'd show her off all the same (Hope I've got this in the right area?)

Aii, that was the idea, I work in a steel works and the roads can be ruff as fuck which is putting me off a little along with the question of declaring...on another note, do you guys get much clearance problems?

wht compny and how much? I'm looking at quotes now for mine and I'm getting 1700 fully comp and I'm bloody 21 in a month!!! lol./ not bad proce, mine was 500 and done 78k miles when i got it with a great service history

I done a search though moneysupermarket.com and the cheapest was £1900 which can be reduced to £1699 if you have the 'bonus accelerator' (10 months cover) and that's me with no ncb. that is third party only though. the company is 'diamond' which are through admiral which were a few hundred more?. i don't know why but just last week i tried putting a old 1.0 polo through and the quotes were 3k + and so have most of the ones through that site except that one. i'll never understand how they work it out

Very smart Polo, nice and clean. I'm still looking at insurance for mine but I'd advise using comparison sites to give a rough idea of price and then ring around local insurance brokers and companies like Adrian Flux who specialise in young drivers. You may well find you're paying closer to £1000 than £2000 if you do some leg work.

The comparison sites are a bit of a con really, they make you feel like you're getting the best deal out there when quite often you're not. I was looking at insurance starting at around £1,300 on my '85 going up to around about £3,000 (new driver, 28 years old, 1043cc, unmodified, kept on road, fully comp). I did some more looking about and got quotes of about £700 through classic insurance companies for the same set up often with a lower excess.

It's a hassle ringing around various companies and trying to find a good deal, but it is worth it. You might spend a weekend on the phone, but you could save yourself a lot of money over the course of a year.

Awesome! What insurance company are you with? I'm looking to upgrade to a 1.4 from my 1.0l soon, only two good quotes I have got are from admiral and elephant on tpft for £1500....

I'm not with any yet, picking it up on Sunday. Cheapest quote I found was £1699 with diamond, third party only on a 10 month bonus booster. The thing is though, I haven't been driving for quite a year yet so I don't have proof of no claims and even when I have I'm not sure I'll be able to claim them as I am currently on a classic policy for a 1500 beetle. I don't think I've tried elephant yet, I'll give em a bell in the morning.

try brentacre for your insurance,saved me over £300 this year,way more than the comparison sites.

looks like its got some major positive camber on the pass front in the first and last pic..

ok, when i turn 21 in about a month I'm gonna ring round a few companies and look for a better deal :)

Dubmax, I think you're right now you mention it. It only had an m.o.t on the 8th of October, would it pass one like this do you think? or it could have a dodgy one :(

Any suggestions on what this could be? anything a few changed parts couldn't fix?

Picked it up today, absolutely chuffed

only miner problems/bad bits like: different key for boot, bottom of engine a little wet with oil, clutch slipping a bit (knocked the price of a new one off) powered steering pump leaking a bit, catch for glovebox missing, come with a teddy without a name, guy has done a bad job of polishing the faded red paint, a few more dents than expected, it didn't lower itself by the time we got there and it shakes a bit when idling though was just bump started (towing bored sidelights were out so left the cars on, had a flat battery) so maybe a the alternator working too much lowering the revs? and breath!
