Replacing Mk4 License Plate / Number Plate Bulbs

Featured Replies

Am I just being thick here but I can't seem to get my bulb holders out of the rear bumper without fear of breaking the unit that holds the bulb.

Has anybody done this recently, is there a knack to getting it out ?

Cheers,

Scott

should just pop out if you pry them gently with a flat screw driver.

Yeah, not happening :(

That is right, but there is a bit of metal you have to aim for, if you bent it you can just re shape it when its out

Ok, bent it SEVERELY out of shape.

What a COMPLETE FAFF !

I've never had the pleasure of such a crap way of installing a license plate bulb in my life before !

Need 2 new bulb holders now and VW's OFFICIAL installation / removal instructions without cocking them up.

Can anybody show pics of how they are supposed to be removed. My hands / fingers are in ruins and I have a blood blister that hurts like stink :(

It's actually easier to get them out by taking the bumper off!

I also have a couple spare if needs be!

I use a thin table knife type of blade to compress the clip, but recommend a bit of insulating/masking tape on the bumper to protect the paintwork. They just click back in, that's the easy bit.

Regards.
