bought this a while back but now I've started giving it some attention I thought I'd make a thread

this is how I bought it.

Model: 1989 Volkswagen polo coupe S

Engine: 3F ( gt ) conversion

Suspension: unknown shocks and springs, lowered 60 I was told, there was a spring compressor on one spring.

Brakes: grooved disks, braided hoses, vw1 calipers

Wheels and Tyres: 16v alloys on 185/55s

Exterior Styling: rolled arches,

factory tints all around

bee sting arial on roof,

side exit,

smoked repeaters,

black front indicators,

twinlamp grill with gt badge on,

checkerboard bonnet,

lots of silicone,

And a door that's a different colour

Interior Styling: lots more silicone,

some nice seats think they are gt seats but not seen the pattern on them before,

matching doorcards which have been ruined with carpet and speakers,

a random blue switch that I beleive was used for a strobe light

some random holes in the dash,

ripped up roof lining

a rear strut that isn't doing anything tbh

no rear seats and

ICE and Security: none!

Think that's everything will get better pictures soon

taken te car off the road for a while so I can sort all the problems with it and get it too a point where I'm happy. I have lots of plans but can't be bothered to write them up as plans always change as I'm sure most of you know so I Will update this as I go :)

Little update, seeing as my head unit loom out of the car is bodged up I decided I would make something to blank it off and hide the head unit in the glovebox when I get a new interior loom,

I know the gauges are pointless but I think it looks alright, alot better then a hole in the dash!

It still needs trimming down a little and sticking in that's why it looks a bit out of place in the pic.

I made it out of a bit of plastic off a mk3 centre console so the pattern on the plastic matches my dash and some gauges i found in a 924 Porsche at tge local Scrapyard

Another update from today, got some new wheels this week that are smaller then the 16v alloys so going a bit lower now, here's a sneaky little pic for now

I'll post up a proper pic when she's sitting right

So started on the fronts today untill I got stopped by tge rain, will hopefully be done tommorow,

I was looking at my car earlier with no grill in and it's made me really want a single lamp grill so if anyone knows of one for sale or where I can buy debadged ones I would be grateful :)

Thanks mate, today was a bad start though snapped 2 6mm spanners to hold the top of the castle nut so I ended up working on my cousins Clio more then my car, did prep and prime my wheels ready for paint hopefully tommorow though If I get time

this car used to live in my hometown, looking forward to seeing how it goes!

to be honest mate I've not drove it much just to work and back and I drive like an old man anyway, I'll be taking it on a track day when it's done so I can have some fun in it and I will let you know!

my old, car.. lost interest in it, and it bacame a bodge job...

The car once used to be hidden away on a farm, Some guy bought it.

Resprayed the car the same colour, not a great job but I've heard it was a state before hand

Got a 1.3 GT converted into previously from a mk1 polo.

Engines had a weak headgasket for 3 Years! so I've heard. But still pulled amazinly well.

handled like a dream and came 2nd at Santa pods dizzy rascal racing.

Glad to hear your getting it all sorted.

the vinnila mk3 is dead was a death trap in the end, the engine lives on though, bike carbs

Thanks matt nice to know a bit of history lol so you think the headgaskets the reason for it burning oil? Did you ever send the v5 off mate

what happened to the car? It was ok when I had it just got bump steer a bit

the rear wheels where rubbing that baddly when i aquaplaned at 60 the rear wheels locked and the cars history

No beef on you though, v5 sent through

I'm about 50/50 if its the headgasket or not, i gave it a tighten and it cured the burning for a while. I wouldnt retighten them thought, i got them basterds tight!

your old car shouldnt have been on the road, it was a deathtrap to be fair.

I'm glad its off the road now anyway, and matts okay. a car can be replaced but a life cant.

I'm pretty certain the headgaskets gone on the car, its worth changing anyway as a matter of course, as its seeping above the alternator, where they all tend to go (main oilway) and if it still burns oil after that, then its either valve stem seals or worst case piston rings.

matts current car is no better, bought off an moderator on here, it was also in a shocking state of affair, with the bottom crank pulley finger tight!

the lesson here, is whenever buying a 2nd hand car thats modified, is check everything, and i mean everything. if in doubt, get it checked by a professional!

its probably the HG, as when i tightened it, it stopped the oil burning tempararaly.

The vinila polos engine mounts where very very lose, as pidge will know , glad I've got rid of the car now, made some tidy money breaking it, and still have the engine left :)

i didnt even think it was that bad :s i just bought it bought some wheels and painted it really the guy before the guy before me did all the work, or so he said. i was in desperate need of a car and when i go to view a car i buy it because I'm so impatient.

yeah ill probably do the HG as soon as i can and i dont think I'm going to buy another modified car they're too much trouble and i like to know whats been done i hate finding grinded off bolts and whatnot id rather be the one bodging then finding the bodge :p

oh and matt, how the hell did you get that exhaust on and off i had to grind it off and weld a bracket to put it back on lol

To be fair, Matt sold him a car with a spring clamp on one of the springs. So its Karma if you ask me. Both cars had their faults.

I doubt very much the car being dodgy or the wheels rubbing had a massive difference on the crash Matt had. more the drivers ability at fault.

I pulled your Vanilla mk3 coupe apart and took the engine out and dismantled the shell, it was a right state haha!

Good luck with the coupe, id get the valve stem seals and oil seals done as well as the headgasket

Thanks mate what was the deal with that spring clamp lol ? It's a bit scary thinking I was driving a car that bad lol, and yes this dedinately has faults too!

lowered the rear for tatton, removed all 4 of them but must have forgotten about one

jay - had an investiagation and the police ruled the car to be the problem, and one guy stayed with me after the crash when the police came, he was doing about 10mph more than me and told them what happened, thank god.

loved the vinnila GT. spent many hours trying to fix the problems, slowy getting the,then hitting at wall

should be some today on my way to the paint shop now!

edit: once again nothing is straight forward when it comes to me working on my car, i need an adaptor for the new paint gun I've gotten as my old one is pants so wont be painting till i get this

edit again: got the adaptor then needed a new end for my hose as it was broke, thennnn, realised the compressors not working properly, great.
