Good piece of free advise..........

Featured Replies

My sister asked me if she could use my Touran for a week while she was over from Germany with her 2 kids, husband & 2 of their friends - making 6 of them - so it would be very expensive for them to hire a 7 seater. My mum said she would pay for putting my sister on the insurance for the week. But hiccup number 1 - being she hasnt lived in the Uk for the last 6 months she cant be added for a short 1 week period and would have to go on as a named driver to the policy for the rest of the insurance policy - £125 extra onto a £221 policy just for her to drive the car. Plus my excess would have to go up from £200 to £500!!!

My dad was driving down to the airport on the 11th to pick them up in the Touran - 1st incident was a stone "about the size of a fist" my dad described coming over from the other carriageway and smashing the screen right in the middle of the window!! £75 excess for a new screen (which my dad kindly paid)

Wipers fuse was the next thing to blow - fixed in 2 seconds. Then 1 headlight bulb on Wednesday & another one on Saturday.

But the worst thing was i warned her about the Phateon rims on the car and not to parallel park the car as it would be too easy to damaged them - she ignored the advice and drove into a parking space damaging the p/s side wheel - 3 chunks are missing out of 3 spokes and the rims of the wheel between the 3 spokes and been grazed against the kerb too.

She got home and phoned to say i've caught the wheel on a kerb a little - but its ok - its only a car!! To which I snapped and gave her a mouth full! The only thing i spend my spare cash are my kids and my cars. (but not always in that order!)

Spoke to a wheel powdercoater and the rims is deeply scratched and would probably show through the powder as a deep imperfection and his advise was to buy a single replacement wheel - £386 from VAG for 1 new replacement wheel & my sister refused to pay anything towards it as "its just a car I dont know what your so angry about" - just by pure luck a seller on ebay had a single 18" Phaeton rim - selling off some NOS stock - paid £165 for it delivered. At the airport today my sister gave me £30 towards the wheel which still leaves me down £135 for the rim + getting the tyre swopped over.

Plus my parents paid the £75 excess + £125 to add her onto the insurance + £60 for a tank of diesel which she used.

That leaves us about £300 out of pocket - NEXT TIME HIRE YOUR OWN CAR!

Ben comes back with avengance ;)

TBH though i would've gone mad - thats the last time you lend her anything then!

Jesus! I wouldnt let her borrow anything again!

i let girls drive the Gti..only because the wheels had stainless lips!

People with the "its just a car" attitude really piss me off.

think you acted the way most people would. especially after trashing rims that come in just short of £400 each.

I have always modded my cars - I have never owned a car that has stayed std for more than 1 week. She should know how much money I spend on my car! My wife complains to her about it enough! The £30 offer towards the repair just adds insult to injury!

man, if that was my sister I would have made her fix the wheel damage with her teeth.

how fucking rude

that sucks big time :@

no offense meant

i lent my dad my b3 passat 20lt 16v est he gave it back 4 years later ?

I hate people who think wheels are just there to be kerbed.

Don't understand why people treat them any different to the rest of the bodywork...

You have to be a real shit driver to ever kerb your wheels, unless of course you were taking evasive action and you were forced onto the kerb.

I wouldn't even move out of the way for an emergency vehicle if it meant attempting to mount a kerb.

I never did..massive kurb, there was no way my car was getting up there!

They say to pull over in the next place thats safe to do so..In my opinion not ramping it up a kurb in panic trying to avoid them!

Furthermore the damage that would be caused to your wheels/suspension or in some case even your front bumper or sills would never ever be compensated by the authorities.

I curbed one of my wheels once trying to make way for a 5 series police car, which was sitting beside me in traffic, with the siren blaring away, trying to squeeze past. :x

What if they were on their way to someone dying, bleeding. You say your £400 rim is worth more then that persons life?

Personally I do my best to get out of their way, without causing harm to me or anyone else in return!

But in regards to the post, I've had a lady open her door into my car and when I asked her to be careful she replied "Its only a car". Most annoying statement ever!

'it's just a car' - that's why so many people drive around in pieces of junk and pay mechanics a lot of money because they don't know how to look after one of the most expensive things in their life!

Will heed your warning!

feel you pain bud my brother has never driven he knows how much my car means to me yet he still tried to light a fag in it and was then upset when i threw it out the window thing is to these people its just a car until its you damaging there car or there things if someone opened a door on my car then gave me the its just a car line after id let there tyres down and tell them its just a car

It is just a car.

But her attitude is just disrespectful, and totally ungrateful.

So next time,it will be just a hire car. And you'll be like, that's just how it is.

We're not all interested in objects but for their function, she probably just sees it as like some company Toyota minibus. But its yours, and her lack of care for it - and more importantly her ignorance to your wishes/instructions/attitude on parking - make her fail hard.

i'd have stabbed her in the face. 4 times.

no. 5 times. definatly 5 times

6 times??

I would be fuming if it was my car, Just coz its 'just a car' its still someones possesion,

if it was me i would have told the fool to buy me a hired kit car for the day at the nurburgring and free accomidation and flight ticket there and back :)

Its the attitude more than anything, i know those wheels are really really expensive , but the fact that she dismisses that beautiful touran as "just a car" after you've clearly put so much time and effort into it is obscene , i feel your pain !

My brother and i have a policy for when we borrow each other's cars - Prostitute Rules- If you fuck it, you pay for it!

had a 20 minute rant at some woman in halford carpark because it was "just a car"

Morale of the story, never let a woman drive your car...Or any car.
