You can just plug this in and leave it or if you really are into your sound you can switch to the proffesional sound option and really start playing. If memory serves me correct it comes with all boxes and instructions.

As people may not be aware of where Eclipse HUs come from and what they are about, after all its not a name many people know. I have found this review on ICECAVERN.COM. This wasnt written by me btw lol :)

So on to the £500 CD8445E... This is a higher spec unit aimed at real audiophiles so the spec list is a little higher. 8v pre-outs, a dot matrix screen so you can see more info, 10 band parametric EQ, time alignment, just what the doctor ordered. After swapping the lower spec unit out and replacing it with the high end the first thing I noticed was that when off it looks identical to the previous unit. It has the same feel and other than the display being different and the model number it looks the same. Behind the faceplate though is a small slot, in fact it's a Memory Stick slot. With this you can play MP3's and even use it as the trigger for the ESN security. I'm not so keen on using a MS instead of a CD here as you can't get exactly the same one if you loose it etc. But being able to fill one with MP3's or WMA files is a great idea. This unit is pretty complicated as far as menus go, but then it has a huge number of settings you can use. It has a PRO mode which enables more settings and manual setting up of time alignment etc so you can go simple or complicated. Eclipse has added a few features that make this great for a high end system. Being able to run 2 way active, with separate sub control all with adjustable crossovers, time alignment and the 10 band EQ. Once it was playing there was again an improvement in the sound quality. Having the time alignment onboard is great and helps you get a more centred image. Even running through budget end equipment this units sound shines through. One rather annoying quirk of this HU though is the inbuilt amp. Most high end units don't include an amp, but this one has a 4x50w max internal amp. Great for those working their way up to a great system, but starting basic. The problem comes when you want to run using external amps. On a unit such as this you'd expect it to be possible to switch off the internal amp to help keep any noise out of the signal. On the Eclipse you can't do this. I never had any problems with noise that I could tell, but it would have been a nice feature.

Both HU's also coped nicely with the British roads, never skipping a beat even over some of our finest potholes!

Overall though, I can't recommend these HU's enough. For the money they have more than enough features you'd want, without too many you'll never use. The 5425 competes well against other units in its price bracket and sounds fantastic. The high end 8445 has all the features you'd need to run a fully active 2 way setup with enough EQ for any decent system. The sound quality is nothing short of fantastic. In fact I'm planning on using an 8445 in a system I'm building in the very near future, can't recommend it more than that!
