managed to get myself classic car insurance on my MK2 for 700 on footman and james. Which, for a 17 year old new driver on a modified car, is bloody good.

Only catch is, I have a limit of 4500 miles for the whole year.... I've already done 50 miles in the past 2 days, I don't see this adding up too well.

Doesn't help that I have thinner wheels too so my car thinks its doing more miles than it is...

Anybody know how important it is that I stay below 4500?

If you go over it, and they can prove it, anything after that 4.5K and you dont have insurance, its void :)

You can get it raised surely? I know i can if i need. Got mine on a 7K one atm.

my policy had this, and when i changed cars they sent a declaration form, that you fill in

i changed cars again, they have never asked for it, i have no idea what milage i do, neither did they, i would not worry

I'll call up and see if they'll raise it, but I seem to remember him saying 4500 was the cheapest it could be?

Presumably because of my being 17 or it being considered just as a 'sunday car'

But I was thinking... Surely they wouldn't check till end if the year.... By which time the insurance will be done and I won't have to worry about it being void =P

I got asked when i insured my car how many miles i do a year, but they never asked me how many is currently on the clock of the car. So how would they know

i tried with footman and james but they wouldnt let me due to not being 25?

they can ask for previous mot - which has miles and current mileage

i'm limited to 3k miles on both my cars, the polo is never going any where near 3k and the mileometer in the jetta hasn't worked for the past 3 years. I just adjust it each time i renew so if any thing happens my insurance is valid.

Each time i renew i get a decleration form asking for the current mileage, it also says if you go over the 3k i have no insurance, so yes it is some thing to worry about controy to other users comments.

i've got a limited mileage policy on my car too, although i've had 2 sets of clocks in the car since i took the policy out, so the mileage readings are all to pot on the MOT's and in the car, lol.

just tell your insurance you don't know your exact milage. i've covered about 2500 miles since last april, not my choice and annoying, as i used to deliver pizza's for a living and did nearly 100 a day

Just had a look on their website, how did you manage to get away with getting insured with them? Or was it with someone else as the policy holder?

Says you need to have held your license for at least 5 years.

ummm... I dunno how I got it... I asked for modern can insurance to start with cos I figured they wouldn't be able to give me classic, but he said I'm not old enough. So I asked if my car counted as classic and he gave me a quote. And I gladly took it =P

And I told them I didn't know what the mileage currently was, but they told me to find out and let them know.... Can I lie about That?

You could probably say its whatever it was on its last MOT, you'll probably get away with that.

I may have to call them and see if I can get a classic quote.

use your clocks up to the limit, then swap them for a spare set of clocks. totally illegal and your car will no longer have genuine mileage, but its one way around your problem. whether you go down this route is up to you and nothing to do with me if you get caught out. as that famous white rapper once said ' i just said it, i didnt know if you would do it or not'!
