Model: 91 polo cl coupe

Engine: 1.0 4 speed, genuine 77,000 miles when i bought it. 84,000 now. new clutch fitted at 83,000

Suspension: spax supersport -40mm lowering springs, did have snapped springs!

Brakes: standard

wheels and tyres: 1982 Audi 80 alloys, 14", refurbed myself in smoke grey with mars red centre caps, 175/65r14 mix of tyres.

Exterior Styling: clear front indicators, late spec rear lights, smoked repeaters, 'scrappage scheme survivor' sticker, red stripe bumpers, rear badges red, vw' badges match wheels.

Interior styling: gt steering wheel, rover gear gaitor!!!!, 1.3 clocks, mk2 coupe s interior with mk3 door cards

Ice and Security: Kenwood KDC-6090R cd headunit, legacy front 3.5" speakers in dash, JBL 6x4 rears, electric aeriel, all completely rewired by myself, fusion sub with volume control mounted on dash.

Comments: Bought 'geraldine' the polo back in march 2010 to learn to drive on as the 83 bready project was'nt going to be on the road for a while more. Bought from exeter car auctions for the pricely sum of £260 plus commision with a genuine 77,000 miles on the clock and a wodge of paper work till the past few years. Got it home and found that it needed a bit of mechanical work doing.

Therefore most of the work done to it so far has been sorting out her problems, i've replaced the fuel tank, fuel filter and pump assembly, serviced the engine, rebuilt the front and rear brakes, replaced all front suspension joints, replaced the rear wheel bearings, rear section of the exhaust and more other odds and sods. All done myself with the help of my dad.

This was taken the morning after we bought her.

The wheels only went on last saturday, had them for months but things like the mot took the attention away. These came from the breakers, they got them off an audi 80 that was stood in a garden for ten years, so they were very corroded. However lots of work with the wire brush on the drill and lots of coats of paint and laquer and they look awesome :-D Even managed to do a polished rim.

So plans are; 50 profile tyres, tidy up the body work, lower 60mm all round with shocks, 1.3 or gt engine conversion.

as said from exeter car auctions, it's previous owner was from cornwall around the helford passage. We guessed it was up here as a student that went to Exeter uni had it? Just a guess though.... :-)

quick update, went shopping on a bready that was being broken, managed to get lots of bits, including spax supersport -40mm lowering springs :-D will be on soon, although want to get the front end stright first.

Managed to get a spare rocker cover which i painted up, looks much better.

gt arch trims are on the want list as well

thanks, you actually inspired the choice, saw yours in the for sale section and wanted them but couldn't afford them. Then i saw one of these when digging in the pile of alloys at a breakers, and that started the 45min hunt to find all four

dare i say it, it's a vauxhall colour. Vauxhall smoke grey to be exact. I knew i wanted metallic grey, it was just a case of which colours there were three cans of in the shop.

And for an update, havn't managed to do any major work recently due to assignments, weather and builders. Although after christmas things should pick up, a local brakers have also just got two mk3's in, will definately get a rev counter, maybe a five speed box and the 1.3 too. :-)

Plus being christmas thets hope some presents will fit the polo; although i don't think santa could fit a gt engine and box down the chimney.... :-D

right, update time.

I think the most major update has to be lowerage! Only 40mm, but it still counts. Did it over this weekend, only took me 13hours! Dam rusty bolts...

it's also had smoked side repeaters (the orange ones were peeing me off), 1.3 clocks with a rev counter, white zenon bulbs, new leads, new plugs. Also have new plates to fit too.

On the down side, my gt rear bumper was for a bready, and yes i am an idiot for not checking. GT bready rear bumper anyone?

The rear exhaust backbox fell off on wednesday, rubbers had perished, but it now has new ones. :-)

However i also found a good genuine reason for replacing the springs, the rears were both broken when i took them out Both top rings were snapped off.

Am tempted to bolt the replacement bumper support panel and gt bumper on to straighten the front, looks pretty shite at the mo.

When i do get the front fully rebuilt i've now got some 4x4 fog/driving lights to go on. There not big, may be able to fit where the proper fogs would go, proper yellow fogs too :-D

So i spent most of my half term (when i should be completing assignments ) replacing the crooked front end, there was more work than i thought there would be but it's finished now, and it looks great

I'm afraid i got a bit trigger happy

so it fitted in our yard (which a car has never been in before! )

thats what my mums always wanted to see from the kitchen door, potted plants are boring...

i knew it was twisted but i didn't expect it to be this bad, the right hand side was folded right back and around. The bumper was held on with wire too

i used the trusty old drill and angle grinder to get the old one off :-)

primed up

painted it then welded it on

the wings needed some work

and now, it looks sexy (at least my interpretation of polo coupe sexy :p )

however, when i first jacked it up in the yard i forgot how close it was to the wall, therefore i cracked the arm of the drivers side mirror i thought it would be fine but when i jumped in to move the car the mirror fell off :(

still, my dad had a chance to use his plastic metal stuff, bodge for the win (until i get a replacement)

need to fit and wire up the fogs now

front end looks 10x better now, good job

ruddy hell! must be weird going from b5.5 passat to mk3 polo, they are a tad different to drive

so i'm now rocking mk2 coupe s seats with mk3 door cards that almost match identically. Theres a horn that air cooled owners would recognise, new battery terminal clamps, red taped bumpers all round, a clean up under the rear bumper, the interior and engine bay was steam cleaned by myself, and a general clean and polish everywhere else.

And the pictures...

it has also had a light shunt up the rear, my sisters ibizas handbrake failed when it was parked behind mine, she also forgot to put hers in reverse, in the pic above her car was where the silver corsa is. It gained enough energy in that short distance to push my car forwards three feet whilst mine was in reverse and had the handbrake on!

Still the worst in the bumper pushed out, theres only a small dent in my rear panel behind the bumper and a bit of red paint on my boot lid. So no major harm done! :-)

time to update this me thinks :-D

so the polo has been to the rtts, plymouth classic car show on the hoe and most recently Devon Dub Fest, where it was parked up in the show and shine area

It's been providing reliable daily transport until i finished college, in the meantime i have obtained and stashed away these:

GT/G40 genuine arches and sideskirts

Mini G60's in need of a refurb and X2 new tyres. I'm thinking dark grey centres and cream rims with the G60 type centre caps ofcourse.

They're not a replacement for the audi wheels, just an alternative.

i'm wondering if i could get those to fit, for some ats classic style

And yesterday...

Mechanically the gearbox is dying, and the front wheel bearings are noisey

Que the gt engine conversion and rebuilt struts with lower springs Which actually will happen if all goes to plan.
