Stuck on what car to get next!?!

Featured Replies

I saw a topic like this a few days back and want some opinions on my choices :D

Getting a newer car soon as I need a more comfortable drive to uni in the morning and insurance is finally affordable to buy a nicer car :D

So here are the choices-

Polo GTI

BMW 325 ci Coupe

Seat Ibiza Cupra

Audi A3 2.0 TDI 140PS

If you had 4k to spend what would you go for?

You wanna waste 4k on a car at uni?

No car = No uni! I need a car to drive down every day! The 6n's becoming a chore in these cold mornings!

Rent a place where your uni is and party! haha

If I live out I cant keep my job and without a job I cant afford to live out! So only option was to keep my job and drive down! But that unfortunately means missing a few parties here and there :p

But I keep myself busy with clubpolo..... :crybaby:

I'd get a 9n TDI. £2000 -£2500 and save the rest.

I looked at them, and my mums actually got a PD100 but they feel sluggish not fun to drive :( Very comfortable though!

I'd go for the A3 2l..

But come on! to get to uni and back, man up and live with the 6n

Dont get me wrong! I was offered £2000 for the 6n few months back and would not let her go for love nor money! But after driving in comfort for a few month and then going back to the 6n, its very hard! And I need a more "grown up" car as the girlfriend puts it :(

6n is not problem, see. Suspension is problem. Standard 6n is as comfortable as standard GTi so you're making sense not so much me thinks.

You dont need a four grand motor to get to uni - you just want one.

Gloss iiiit!

Hahaha I suppose want has a part in need aswell!

Whatever car I get isnt gonna be standard for long! Suspension isnt the problem with my 6n its comfortable to my bum but i want something newer inside and faster!

And whatever I get has to get me to uni!

Basically you want a faster/cooler car which is fine, but you waffled some rubbish about comfort instead haha

CUPRA!!!

Polo GTi's aren't particularly quick and in my opinion very overpriced for what they are.

BMW's are very common although the 325's are sposed to be pretty quick and can look good if done right, although most of them look the same.

Audi A3 would be nice but they seem a bit boring really. If it was an S3 you were considering it would be my choice though.

The cupra is quick, has a nice interior, looks amazing (mk3) when lowered on some fat wheels and got loads of tuning potential with the 1.8t engine, 300Bhp is easily possible for not much money when you get bored of it.

All in my opinion of course and its up to you really.

I am wanting a more fun car...YES....

But comfort in terms of when I get into in the morning I want it to get warm quickly, be relatively quite on the motorway and not a pain in these winter months!

Patchb- Thanks for the first actual post on topic!

Cupra's look amazing modified! We have one around here that won DC10 best something....i cant remember!

What sorta work would be needed to "tune" the 1.8T? I cant believe you can double the power for not alot of money!

Stage one will see you about 190bhp and costs very little, original turbo etc, so cheap. 190bhp in a car that small and light means a very quick little car. Just a remap will see over 200bhp and thats about £300 for a decent one.

Stage 2 usually includes FMIC, KO3s or other turbo and other mods, will set you back probably about £700-1000 but can be pushing out up to 280bhp on a KO3S and the standard internals will take up to 300bhp happily apparently.

I am a noob when it comes to engine mods.

Whats a stage one? Custom Map?

I see you have a ibiza gti? What are they like to live with everyday?

Edit- Is it the 2000-2002? mk3 I think?

OK, just done a bit more research as that was just what I'd read on the seat forums, seems that stage one is basically a custom map and other simple things like induction etc. Can see about 210bhp on these mods so it seems.

Stage 2 is FMIC, TIP, turbo back exhaust, KO3S, etc. but standard internals. Can see around 260-270bhp or 250 if you want reliability.

I'm definately no expert on the 1.8t's so please correct me if I'm wrong on anything.

The Ibiza GTi is a very nice drive, mines an 8v, its pretty quick for what it is (seeing as I'm 18) and very comfy on the standard suspension. Only thing I've had go wrong with it so far is rattly exhaust and the heater needs fixing but the heater isn't a common problem. Being a 2.0 it does like to drink if you floor it.

The 16V GTi's have 150bhp and are supposedly very fun to drive as they need to be revved a lot. Fairly easy to tune the ABF engine as well.

I wouldn't consider one though if I had £4k to spend, would go for a MK3 Cupra.

I'd go for the A3 2l..

But come on! to get to uni and back, man up and live with the 6n

Get yourself to some parties and spend some money on booze tbh. A student with an A3 isn't a cool one lets be honest.

What 6n do you have?

He probably won't move to uni because of the girlfriend..am i right? :ninja::D

Yeah I thought so ! haha

Yeah the 16vers aren't that great on the motorway, quite noisy. I'd go for the Ibiza or A3, just based on looks :-)

Thats into K04 territory, K03s are more round the 240bhp mark. There wasnt technically a K03S anyway, but thats a different topic all together.

Eitherway, the 1.8t engines are very good for tunability. I'd look for an AGU coded one if you are wanting to spend cash later on as they have the big port head and forged bottom end.

A friend had an Ibiza on a '00 plate and was very comfy, but i wouldnt have one, just seemed rattly still for the car it was. Maybe his was shafted!? A3 is a nice car definitely, but it depends what you want from your 4k car.

Damn you lot man! I was leaning towards what i know and get a polo gti, but whilst reading up on the cupra a bit more they seem alot more fun to play around with and it seems I will get alot more for my money!

Confused even more now!

Might join cupra forums and ask for more info on there!

I'd go for the A3 2.0 TDi just because it will be good on fuel leaving you more money to go out and party. I'm considering something like an A3 at the moment because i drive to uni as well and my 6N2 hasnt taken too kindly to me suddenely using it a lot more and now needs lots bits repairing.
