'02 Polo 1.4TDi WATER LEAK

Featured Replies

Yes, we have a water leak in the '02 3 Cylinder 1.4 TDi......... It is coming from the RH side of the engine as viewed. Is this the WATER PUMP area? It drips only when the engine is running at normal temp and it DRIPS from the large hose area down onto the smaller hose that is just underneath.

So, which is the most likely please to 'go', the WATER PUMP ( seal / bearing / gasket etc ) or the HOSE do you think. The Polo has done just over 100k mls if that helps ??

Any help / ideas gratefully received. Thanks

Could be either but at that milage the pump could do with changing anyway, look at the leak off hole on the waterpump to see if there is any antifreeze build up but also check the crappy plastic water pipe near it as these crack easily.

Matt

Just read your post again and if its the RH as your looking in the bay then that sounds like the thermostat housing.

Thanks Matt for that info. Yes it is the RH side as you look at the engine ( 3 cylinder Diesel ). Trouble is, as a newcomer to this VW model, I haven't found my way round the engine bay yet.

So, if that is the thermostat on the RH side, just out of interest, where is the Water Pump please ??

Many thanks again
