my mk3 polo coupe CL project thread.

Featured Replies

Hello, new here on this name, did have 1 other names from when i brough my polo from a member on here.

this is my polo:

Photo0096.jpg

reason for starting a project thread is my turbo mini project ( http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.p...&tid=347272 ) is slowing over winter so i want something to fiddle with. so the polo is next in line :)

the other week my cat got a bit blocked so I've ordered a SS 4 branch and a GT back section, will fab the link section myself.

some of the things I've been wondering is the "GT" conversion. is it possible to take the MPI off a GT and place it straight onto a SPI without too much work? is it worth it, was considering a GT cam or a aftermarket cam of some sort, not sure what as i havnt looked whats on offer yet. and maybe a chip.

also I'm not changing engines as mines only done 35k now (and thats generous with the little wheels lol :p) so runs like a clock, but whats the diffenence internally between the GT and the standard 1.3 lump, better cam i know but the rest i dont.

is the head the same, if not i might buy a GT head and do a bit of porting and maybe machining.

bit long winded haha.

cheers

I reckognise you from TMF now as you use the same siggy on there.

Looks ace mate! Love the wheels!!

Right, GT stuffs

Internals of a GT are indeed different, they use different pistons n stuff to give a different compression ration

GT box is different, has shorter ratios.

If you want GT MPI stuff you will need the entire engine bay loom, ECU, air intake stuff (air box, elbow, AFM), throttle body, inlet and injectors obv.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the dizzy is different too?

Heads are the same, somke later GT's had double valve springs. But some didn't so i wouldn't worry about that.

ok. will keep my eyes open for the mpi lot then. i have read the dizzys different but as i say I'm new to fiddling on these so i might be wrong also lol. the comp can be raised easily by skimming the head as i have acess to machines etc at my mini's engineers. not worried about a 5 speed for now.

ill update when my manifold comes ;)

i want a grille with the round spots, some pressed plates and some more camber on the back i think, just to change it around a little.

cheers mate. :)

exhaust on... all fine but its hitting the roll bar so need to find a way to sort it. and vibrating on the support at the start of the tunnel so some grinding is needed on that.

also went to the scrapper and got this for a couple of quid and plopped a filter on the end (no comments about my dirty carpets as there usually alot cleaner than this haha):

Nice looking motor mate, very clean!

I noticed someone put about the only some of the later GT's having double valve spring.. well do you know if its possible to fit the double valve springs to an earlier one?

Chris

well...havnt been on in a while been cracking on with the mini, the polo isnt as shiney now it needs a good polish, needs a few bits doing to get it top notch again. I'm going to get a more standard size wheel for it as the tyre prices and revs on the motorway are getting a bit annoying for how much i use it, want some bbs 14x6 wheels as they will be a hell of a lot cheaper for tyres. so will be selling these wheels soon, they have got some laquer peel over winter so will need a good polish, and one is slightly curbed.

bits need doing, rear wheel bearing, front balljoints, front tower bushes, engine needs to be put on a diagnostic to see why its running rich and inificient, not to mention slow, needs a new ariel as some bastart snapped mine off, a few stone chips have turned a lil rusty so a sand and spray job here and there.

dubwheeler cant asnwer you question sorry as I'm no polo expert on these I'm afraid, maybe one day as when my minis finished i might bosh a gt1756 and an intercooler on this and see what happens.

cheers for the comments.

Don't know right now tbh I'll check and get back to you, provisionally for sale now as I want something bigger, a scirocco to be exact. Only 42k on the clock and that's a bit high as it was running tiny wheels for about 20k of it so Probs done more like 40k, fsh, new cambelt, new headgasket, 4 decent tyres, about 5 months mot, new ss 4branch manifold, very solid shell only 2 small spots of rust one on the front wheelarch about 3mm in diameter and one on the rear window at the back about the same size. 1200ono.
