Hello,

My first post here, although I should have been here before (just read a fix for a really annoying problem on my last polo!).

As the title says, wont start when its raining hard. I've done quite a bit of reading but that can only take me so far. It has been suggested to buy new spark plug cables but my nearest VW garage quoted me almost one hundred pounds(!) and I can't find any online as I don't know the correct name!

Its drizzling a bit now so i thought i would go and have a tinker, but it started first time! After having a look around i noticed that there is a short occurring outside the distributor. Check the pics:

I have drawn a little red 'I' where I can see a spark shorting out, take a look:

I am guessing that when its wet there is enough moisture in the air to arc across.

Would this be enough to stop the car from starting?

UPDATE: got some new cables and a new distributer, seems to have fixed the stuttering problem, ill see whether it starts in the rain!
