Nah dude MK2 not done yet :(

Got to pick up a new alternator cos the old one fouled the carbs, lump should be in this weekend though :finger:

Hows life with boost?

gahhh missions.com. always summat innit! boostages is good, but read on for todays adventures and mishaps!

well today was interesting!

went to a rolling road day at awesome GTI, as its only around the corner, was hoping for circa 165bhp.

impressed with the results, less so with the staff. Granted I should have told them not to red-line it, I assumed they would know that G-laders arent designed to hit the limiter. apparently they had done the same with a Mk2 golf G60 earlier in the day. Anyway they did indeed hit the limiter and we were greeted oil shooting out of the oil breather! it was definatly not from the boost release valve, and the charger is always well lubricated (2 secs of pfte in each inlet at 2k rpm every 500 miles) so i think it was just due to heavy breathing. it does breath heavily anyway, it was apparently a 100k engine, rebuilt 28k ago, (original engine replaced at 150k, car now on 178k)

anyway pushed the car out, cleaned up all the oil, checked the levels and topped up, drove it home gently and doesnt seem to have sprayed anything else out. oil looks clean and is 15w40. grrr

anyway figures

Run 1

ATF:- 169.70 Bhp

ATW:- 145.56 Bhp

Torque:- 136.87 ft-lbs

Run 2

ATF:- 170.17 Bhp

ATW:- 149.19 Bhp

Torque:- 141.33 ft-lbs

woop for boosty power! i forgot about today =[ proper gay that they redlined it, you'd think they'd know what they were doing!

awesome gti suck dick ! 170bhp very niceeeeeeeeeeee !

well done on the 170bhp saf!

surly they should have known not to red line it?

and no car is going to reach top figures at the redline anyway so whats the point?

Barney took me for some serious fun in this, you must be having the time of your life safbot. hope you are keeping the Pikeytech tradition alive - i keep having thoughts about mk2s and afh's, reading your threads don't help either.

Whens the mk1 making an appearance?

So is it ok now or is it losing oil still? heard a few negative remarks about that place. Still, every business has them. Ill be home in a week and cannot wait to see this beast!

merk2 afh! do it my son. you know you want to! we'll always bob over and lend a hand! yeh been having alot of fun, brought back memories of my first polo (Gina G), shame i couldnt make it to the hudds meet today but tending to the car comes first!

mk1 shall be soon, just waiting on a head to arrive in the post and then i can build up an interim hybrid lump, stick it in and take it for an mot! i still have to find the keys for it tho! arrrrrrrgh!

yeh i've never used awesome in the past for various reasons, mainly cost, they are far more expensive than thier rivals, but i couldnt resist a RR on my doorstep.

shes breathing heavily, but nothing to be too worried about at the moment. changed the alternator today for a new vag one, and all the boost pipes look relatively clean.

think i may have found the source of the random misfire, one of the ends of the spark plugs had snapped off in the lead! so ill be getting some new bosch W4DP0 plugs and beru/bbt leads tomorrow.

got some a couple of piccies to stick up in a bit but need to find a couple of copper washers in my box of joy first!

3 months of blatting it about in low-traction surfaces meant baldy mc baldy falkens so stuck the OZ's on temporarily.

DSC04837.jpg

its amazing the difference in traction between budget tyres and performance ones even with 5mm more tread than the falkens, I'm still spinning up in most gears!

next job is to change the gearbox selector shaft seal as its leaky mc leaking!

also with massive thanks to stuart norman of PPS for sorting me and a few friends out with a fantastic group buy, I got the new subframe on at the weekend, and the old subframe will be heading its way over to Cheys03 at the RR day

Ha baldy Mc baldy and leaky Mc leaky. Bad times but both simple tasks to sort.

Looks better on the RA's for sure though. Hope this move is a temporary measure. Not that i don't like the OZ wheels.

Still got a PY lump with your name on it safatron.

Still enjoying it i hope?

yeh man enjoying it as always, you'd have to be a pretty boring bastard not to enjoy a G!

the gearbox shaft selector seal is easy to change, practised on a spare box in the house as its alot easier than i thought, will get on it one evening this week.

the OZ's are indeed temporary, tezmondo might have some falkens in his shed so i can get the bbs back in action, deffo prefer the G on them!

yeh i need to get that lump off you, i cant get over at the minute, the cars a bit ill, so needs diagnosing and then fixing. annoying as I've got the mot up at the end of the month and no other cars on the road at the moment.

can you flick me some pictures of the lump please and let me know when your next down your ends, ill wing a bit of petty money if you want, and your more than welcome to bring boris and rich for a chill?

much <3

ps did you find the logbook to send off?!

same coulor as mine :D

Lovin the colour man :)

love the matalic grey g40s

great power figure

I would love to come for a chill or to assist in block swapping but unfortunately I'm incarcerated in backwardsville, France for at least another 3 months. However when I'm back I'm hoping to find a nice black mk2 coupe low miler with my name all over it and a 16v conversion in the glovebox, at which point id be more than happy to come across and see the safbot! Alternatively if there was a yellow mk2 available and my loan arrived at a similar time where the owner decided it was surplus i'd imagine we could have a chat ;)

Hope you're well saf! A bientot!

catch you int summer then bro reespect!

braved the elements to wash and polish the car pre mot. car has a new ticket woop, needed rear wheel bearings nipping up (so they got regreased too) and an os outer cv bootay.

emissions hmmm fitting a spare lambda, new vw blue and black temp sender tomorrow, as well as changing the gearbox selector bush. will be a good way to christen the new unit!

but I've got a gt head, which is going to be rebuilt with some g40 sodium valves. are the followers g40 specific too? as i have the ones in the GT head but also a spare set of ones from a PY lump.

the refreshed head is hopefully going to grace the g40s original rebuilt bottom end and i can bolt all the standard gear back on the engine.

btw does anyone have a snippet of the loom with the vag-com plug? mines been butchered for a radio power feed.
