every time i tax mine online i just print off the bit that says my tax has been confirmed and keep it in my car until my tax disc comes

you can get done for not displaying your tax disc but if you show him the conformation he might let you go as he will know wether its taxed or not

As mentioned you cant display it if you havnt got it yet, as long as you have paid for it online and its in the post youre fine.

I have been quetioned about not having one before becuase I was waiting for it to be delivered. I told them this and didnt take it any further. It only takes a few days anyhow I think my last one took 3 or 4 days after doing it.

id say u need to display the disc

In theory failure to display is an offence, but the worst likely outcome is they'll give you a 7-day wonder to produce your tax disc at a police station in a wekk.

As olly says, print your receipt off and keep it in the car and you should be fine.

also the cops aswell depends how nice hes feeling or if hes had a bad day

I called the police station when i had this problem, they woman told me to remove your old tax disc (the one thats run out). and replace it with a bit of paper which has the authentication number on it which they give you online/over the phone after you pay the tax, this way if they do pull you over they can put the number into the machine, it will pop up saying you have paid for road tax so they realise its in the post, and let you be on your way.

Hope this helps,

Worst case scenario you might get issued a HO/RT1 form or "producer". I've never heard of someone being stuck on in this scenario but I can only speak for the Met.

to be fair you've paid for it to be on the road and not got the disc. So in theory they're ripping you off for your first weeks worth of tax if you can't have it on the road when you've paid for that week already? does that make any sense?
