*Please note, this post is a work in progress, I don't have time to write it all up in one go*

I had a very hard time trying to find any information for installing a CK3000 Parrot kit into a Polo, there seemed to be no how-to's written up so I decided to document my installation for others as I wish I'd had one!

Before you start taking the car apart these are the parts/tools I required for the whole installation

Parts I purchased

Additional VW stereo loom

3 meter single core cable to test power

Tools

Cross head screw driver

Wire cutters

Wire strippers

Choc-bloc or your prefered method of connecting to existing wiring

Multimeter

credit card - for removing trim with scratching it

First off you will need to make sure you have everything, nothing worse than getting stuck into a project and then having to pop down to Halfords every time you need something! Main two things you will probably have to purchase or the additional wiring loom and the stereo removal keys.

The additional wiring loom - the one that comes with the Parrot kit will not plug and play in the Polo, if you go on the Parrot website you can put in your car make and model and it will tell you which additional loom you require - I went to Halfords and purchased a generic VW/Audio loom which is the same thing, it is pictured below, the additional loom is the one with the connectors circled in red.

The stereo removal keys are quite specific ones, my local Halfords did not have them, I had to go to a specialist car audio shop - you might want to try ebay as they will be a lot cheaper - I paid £20 for 4 small bits of metal!!! They are pictured below, you will need 4 of these.

Before going ahead and installing everything I would advise connecting it all together and plugging it in to make sure it works - this saved me a few headaches later as you will see from the slight VW wiring differences. Once you have the additional loom clip it to the Parrot wiring, it might look rather scaryif your not used to car audio as the are loads of wires but don't be put off - this is an easy installation once you have the correct info.

Below is a wiring diagram for connecting the parrot to the additional wiring loom you need to purchase - the one on the right is the additional loom, take to of the off-set clips to help you identify where they plug in.

I'd just like to say that I did plug in the Phone mute yellow cable into mute 2 as the diagram shows but when I checked wiring it seemed this wire was not connected to anything in the cars VW wiring loom, unit worked fine though so I recommed connecting it up to be sure, I thought I would tell you this if as I did you followed the wire back and found it did not connect to anything.

Here is a picture of the loom all connected up -

Now you have connected it all up lets make sure it works before installing everything into the car - all we need to do is un-plug the large connector in the back of the stereo and plug it into the large black socket on our new loom, then plug the large ISO plug on the new loom into the back of the stereo (the big black plastic plug with a lever arm on it) The only other thing required is a permanent live feed - this is the single red wire on the loom that is not connected to anything. For this testing I would highly recommend just getting a long wire and running it from the live terminal of the main battery making sure it is long enough to reach round into the car stereo - do not bother to feed the cable throught the bulkhead, just drape it aroud the car as it will not be needed as you will see, it's purely for testing.

So now remove the stereo using the 4 keys as below, they don't click when they are in place, look at the pics to see where and how deep they need to go .

Now the stereo is out unplug the rear connector

Don't force it - lift the lever arm up as show, it will then just pop off.

Now plug in your new Parrot loom into the stereo (only one will fit, you can't get it wrong) and the plug the cars wiring loom you just removed into your new Parrot loom, everything should now be connected up except the constant 12v red power wire, using the lead you have from your battery connect to this.

That's it for testing purposes - the Parrot unit should now power up and you can use it - so make sure it works and comes through the stereo and mutes it as it should. You will probably notice at this stage that the unit is constantly powered on even if the ignition is switched off. This is where we have to do a little re-wiring.

The 12V Battery permanent feed is fine, the problem is with the 12V Ignition orange wire feed that the Parrot loom is wired to use. I followed the 12v Ingnition wire (Orange fused one) back to the VW loom as below (wire circled in blue the the Parrot Ignition wire is connected to)

I Then put a multimeter on this wire -

As you can see it reads 12 volts - even with the ignition off !! It should not read anything with the ignition off.

It's worth you metering out this wire yorself as it may differ on different Polo models/stereo options, if this only reads 12 volts with ignition on then your Parrot is wired correctly and you only need to wire in the permanent 12v power correctly. If this wire reads 12 volts all the time then you need to do the same mod as me below.

12v Ignition / 12v Constant power wiring mod

Remove the wiring loom from car so it can be worked on. Identify the 12v Battery (red) and 12v ignition (orange) wires - these are the only two wires that have fuses in them. you now need to swap these cables over in the connector so that the constant 12v feed is wired to the correct wire on the cars loom. We will then be left with the long red wire as the 12v ignition feed, which we will wire in elsewhere.

Below is a pic of how to remove the connectors from the plug, you can see there is a little bit of metal sticking out on the plug - I used a little pin to press this in so it could be removed, when you have removed both the 12v battery and 12 ignition wires switch their positions so you plug them back in each others position.

Now the constant 12v feed is correctly wired we need to find a place to wire the 12v ignition wire - this is now the red wire that is hanging free from the loom. You need to wire this to something on the car that only powers 12v when the ignition is on. I found the cigarete lighter was the best candidate. Trim levels might be different on other Polo models, on mine There were only two screws holding the trim around the gear lever - the rest of it was just popped into place so only needed pulling as below -

You should now have enought room to unplug the connector from the rear of the cigarete lighter as shown below -

hi bud sorry to pick at your thread just thought id say to save time instead of pulling out the red/orange wires to swap over you can just swap the top of the fuse holders ( the short section that does'nt hold the fuse ! ) it does the same job that way just with out having to play with the iso block .
