I'm building a show car, and in my opinion you can't build a "show car" for £500.

I think I've spent around 7K on my Polo, 3k alone in the last 6 weeks.

if i had 7k to be spending id not own a polo. And dont get me wrong i love it to bits. But id be onto something else with 7k.

started with this. £50 head gasket failure an bit rough around the edges

no more than £150 on Coupe S bodykit (front arches an splitter) wider steels, lowered suspension, new interior, new trim parts, new grill, some hammerite , red pin striping and BOOM

or a mk3 GT, £200

again, some different wheels, few new bits of trim a new door and bonnet from scrappy, a black GT interior which included seats, door cards and all carpets, a laguna splitter and some polish - £100

but I guess its a case of just say spending 30k on a standard porsche and not doing anything to it, like every other porsche owner, or spending 30k on a supra and making it the best and the fastest in the world. Its that sort of thing but on a scaled down version

I just cant spend little amounts on my cars, £500 wouldnt even get 2 of my wheels. i spent more than £500 on my 2 front seats.

granted it doesnt take thousands to make a nice looking car, but it sure helps.

all these budget builds just look gash tbf...I hate to be obnoxious but i dont see the point of doing things in halves...either do it right or dont bother...just my opinion though

i think thats a bit harsh. money doesnt have to spent, it just has to be spent in the right way. besides this is a polo forum, we should accept anything from standard to show cars.

also just because you are not spending a ridiculous amount of money on it doesnt mean your doing it wrong or bad

i did indeed sell it to my mate, his ex GF torched his mk3 gti and left him with no car and too skint to make a claim on his already overpriced insurance - so i let him pay it off monthly for the 1k it cost me to buy / build

he and his mate got it painted in a blueish white for naff all - i'll see if he's got any pics.

he put it up for sale after a couple of months and got £1500 for it so not bad.

This thread is about budget builds.. there was nothing said about them having to be show cars!

I like a oem vibe to my car and it's a daily so I probably never would build a car with extensive bodywork such as indy's (even tho it looks shit hot) it's just not my bag, doesn't mean it can't be a show car just because it's got valver interior and 8v bumpers, to me it depends on how it all goes together, cars that are build to be show cars and have check list of £1000 rims, £600 leathers, £2000 respray/bodywork does not nessicarily mean it will work together well and be a show car! I've seen a couple (granted usually jap ones) that have just had the vital components for a show car but they just don't gel together as concepts!

I'm not trying to do the whole my car is bette than your car thing...my car is very scene and probably wouldnt stand out as much as some of these budget builds, but I would just rather do things "properly" than DIY jobs.

I'm slightly more advantaged than some as I have a friend who is in the business so I dont pay labour costs or anything like that (not that I'm being big headed)

am sure most of you have more of a life than me lol as all i do is work to make money to spend on the car lmao

maybe you should have a browse over the arosa thread, everything was DIY and attended to, new coilover suspension, passat 14 x 6j steels, 16V 6n engine conversion, 16v hubs with new bearings brakes 256mm discs and pads, new ball joints, polo gti rack, track rod ends, s3 wishbone bushes, new exhaust system, bucket seats, smoothed doors / boot / wings / bumpers / badboy bonnet / keyless entry etc etc

WAS done PROPERLY, very well put together, mechanically 100% just needed the body work finishing off which was done by the next owner for the price of the paint.

i agree, 9 times out of 10 a budget build looks just that... cheap.

BUT thats usually because people buy cheap stuff, like lexus lights, cheap looking grills, rubbish wheels, covering it in stickers that don't mean anything etc. just seeming to buy something because its there and doesn't cost more than £20 and will bolt onto your car.

where as if i had a budget of 500 quid, that'd just got on coilovers, and a decent set of wheels that need a refurb.

its not going to be a show winner, but it'll look 10 times better than most other polos on the road. it'll look the 'bizz' in its own right.
