Budget builds never last! I had a couple that started like that, then it gets out of hand...

I didnt want to spend anything on the GT after i bought it but then decided it needed a bit of tweaking to make it mine... now both of the chargers going on it cost more than £500 each!

That reminds me, i must get some photos tomorrow...

how pointless it is to lower a car with so many bodywork issues. that car of his could have been showroom condition 6 months ago if he'd spent some time on doing the right things... but no.... he's more interested on sticking red tape on the bumpers so it looks like a GT.

Learning about engines and cars in general is half the fun. I dont want to get to 40, tell everyone I've owned and loved modified cars for years, and still not be able to change a set of brakes.

I'm not sure on some of the arguments in this, but i'm very in favour of budget builds - i'm doing one myself right now! xD

I think that if you spend so much time on making it look perfect and 'show standard', you'll cry like a baby when it smacks over potholes, gets bird shit on it etc etc..

I like my bike the same way, gave up on making it 'show standard'. Now its ridden, not hidden. Nice and clean, but 5 hrs of polishing? f*ck that!

As much as i dislike people that give cars to garages to do the work.... the people i REALLY hate are the idiots that trailer there cars everywhere.

I get pissed off when a bird shits on my car, but i guess thats because i painted the car myself. And my satin paint doesn't have as much protection as the next mans gloss finish. It marks pretty quickly :(

However, i do abuse the shit out of the car and i don't wash it for weeks on end haha.

I have loved having an older car which I feel I can have a go with, some of my newer cars, I wouldn't dare tinker with. Part of having the Polo is the enjoyment of trying things out myself (thankfully, not made any mistakes yet!). I would never want the perfect, finished car dropped off on my door step - I'd want rid of it straight away so I could make another car something different.

Edit: afterthought: you could spend a lot and it still do the work yourself, and it that way it wouldn;t be a budget build but you'd be doing the work.

Make your mind up about what your point is, that's two different things you've said there.

Some people just don't want a standard looking car, they want it to get attention wherever it goes and that's got nothing to do with whether you did the work or not!

Back to the original point, it depends what YOU want from the car, if you want to learn about engines then good for you, other people want to pose and get attention, other people want to just get their car tidy after buying it in a state.

Your only saying that you love doing things to your car yourself because your driving a Polo, nothing special.

When your older and your driving something much more expensive, I guess, then you won't want to be messing around with it then!

My uncle has a Range Rover and wants the interior re-doing with the Bentley cross stitch, how ridiculous would it seem if he was there sewing his own seats in a bloody range rover, you just wouldn't do it, but if it was a £100 MK2 Polo shitter then maybe you would, all depends on how good you want the work to be, because your work is never going to be as good as a pros.

The whole forum doesn't revolve around the technical forum, there is a photo gallery, there is a for sale section, theres a general chat, oh, and theres the other small point about talking to people who are "into" VW's and Polos.

Very rarely polo's worth mentioning are modded completely by their owner. It is just impossible to do a work as good as a professional especially in things like trimming, or heavy engine tuning and modding. Ofc you can do things for your own but as Indy said this is a picture thread and not a do it on your own way photos thread.

Stuff like re stitching leather, and engine modding like rolling roads, and re mapping are things that have to be done by professionals.

But things like simply fitting an engine in a polo, people pay loads of money to get it professionally fitted when people can do just as good a job at home for a fraction of the cost.

I have seen people pay to do a gt conversion to a mk3, when it is so simple.

Some things are best left to professionals, but there are a lot of things you can do yourself.

I think alot more highly of people who have a nice car that they have done the majority of the work themselves too, it is very easy when you have a massive budget to get it all done at garages, much harder to do it yourself.

And don't forget there are quite a few show standard cars that the owner has done alot the work themselves too.
