Quit the arguing and post morreeee budget builds!

Not really a build but my old 6n cost bowt £60 to spray (rattle can) not perfect but i can say i done it only reason the bumpers are darker as the car had faded like hell wen i got round to spraying then, then coilies £80 Cudnt go lower due to seizing, Wheels £80, Bumpers £70, Valver interior £50, Bonnet graffited at Run To the Sun £10. so £350 total. i was happy with it as it difrent and stands out! :)

Very rarely polo's worth mentioning are modded completely by their owner. It is just impossible to do a work as good as a professional especially in things like trimming, or heavy engine tuning and modding. Ofc you can do things for your own but as Indy said this is a picture thread and not a do it on your own way photos thread.

for every top notch job i've seen done by a pro, i've seen another ten shit job's done by so called pro's. paying some one to do some thing in no way guarantee's a good finish, indy even said that the first time he paid some one to do his car it turned out shit which is why he's having to redo it.

and as for it being impossible to do work as good as pro's, you are very much mistaken, i've seen shit loads of build threads with people creating master pieces either doing most of the work or all of it, and it's these car's that seem to get the most respect.

In my eyes a well built car that cost £500 can be just as good as one with thousands poured into it :)

i done ALL the work on mine myself from start to finish (built not brought) hadent done anything like it befor either...spent prob around £600-700 maybe more

thanks guys and yep all in the garden and first time i done anything like it I'm only 17 too lol but am from and machanical/engineering background so I'm quite hands on ...its not perfect in the flesh thers a bit of rust coming back and it could do with more polishing but for my first car i think it will be fine may even do some pannels again next year

hey, thats my old mk2. did you get it from clee hill in shropshire? club polo and santa cruz surf stickers in the windows and gt seats.

to be honest i beleive the best thing you can do with your car if you're on a budget is to restore it to as close to showroom condition as possible, and then start from there. i.e. if the paint is flaky or there's bits of rust... don't be a nob and paint it flourescent yellow with paint that costs £2.50 a can from home bargains, repair the rust, dents and laquer peel and restore it to standard.

there is no skill whatsoever in buying cheap paint and painting a car...

granted its cheap, but it ALWAYS looks shit unless you're a pro, using professional tools.

if you buy a shitter for £100 with a few dents and rust spots, is it not money well spent to fix up the bodywork?

it is very unfortunate that someone who spends a tenner on a matt black paint job gets more respect than someone who spends £100 fixing up all minor dents and scratches etc.

for example...

my little brother has his mk3, a couple of weeks ago he was reversing with his door open and crashed into a wall with the door.

since then, i helped him bash it out and start fillering it and he said he'd finish it off... maybe a couple hours work...

since then he has bought and fitted a lowering kit.

how pointless it is to lower a car with so many bodywork issues. that car of his could have been showroom condition 6 months ago if he'd spent some time on doing the right things... but no.... he's more interested on sticking red tape on the bumpers so it looks like a GT.

the reason that red 6n with pslots is getting so much respect on here is because its bodywork looks mint, and the wheels arent too overpowering... notice how the car looks so smooth?

My polo's a little budget build i think

I bought my little beut off my bro with some lenso rs5's, and 40mm lowering springs and a debadged front grill.

since then I've:

debadged the boot- £0

removed the bump strips- £0

coilovers- £110 (sum1 off here)

K&N air filter- £10 (off a mate)

cold air feed piping- £2.50 (VW action)

subaru WRX (gc8) front bucket recliners- £40 (brother) then welded thm onto polo subframes.

stripped and boarded rear seats and boot area- £5 for carpet and then work supplied the MDF :)

Had a bump and sprayed front bumpers matt black and i think it looks good so leavin it till summer- £20 for paint.

MOMO millenium steering wheel- crimbo present from mother so £0

I've got some valver alloys to go on- £80, asked for tyres for crimbo and they will be going on.

Thats all i can think of for now, probably some more little things but can't think.

All in all thats cost £267.50

I reckon thats good going, and i think my car looks pretty dam good for them pennies, if i can be bothered ill get some pics up later on as i'm at college atm.

A good looking and good going car can be made for little money, its all a matter of opinion, what styles you like and how much doller youve got.

So pipe down with all the arguing, and just accept that everyone has differnt money situations and different opinions on styles.

But in my opinion, it's all about doing what you can yourself. If your just paying someone to do something, I don't consider that modding, it's paying someone! I'm currently doing a pretty much resto job on the loon, full engine rebuild, light tuning, body work, smoothed bay. But granted, there will be a few things that I'll get people to help with, such as the old dear re-doing the seats. But I will source all the materials, and help out where I can. It's all about doing things on a budget. Paying someone to do something I'm capable of doing goes against the grain. I have much more respect for the guy that has a good go and shafts it than for some rich ass mummys boy who pays for everything to be done. Anyone with money can pay someone to stick tat to their car, but it takes skills to do it for yourself

Fuck off with your (though I hate the phrase!) cheque book cars!! Roll on the budgets

fuckin hell if i had that money i wouldnt be drivin a polo but a 500 pound car is for proper drivin and a car that you spend thousands on well its not a car any more because u wont wont to drive it every day u will be to worried about scratching it and any way u should try to save as much money as possible and do as much of the work your self then u can stand back and admire your work and think wow i actually did that and admire what it looks like aswell i bet most I've not all of the budget build cars are used as a daily car but all of the cars that have had thousands spent on it (aka show cars) they will be locked up in a garage and only come out every so often that isnt how a car should be it should be a car that u can drive every day and something that u have designed not other people its your car to do what YOU wont to do your self
