Tomorow

Hopfully , Rubstrips , rear badges will be removed. I'm now smoothing the back over (badge and boot handle) so orange badge is usless...

Wiper will be taken off.

If i get time (picking gf up from college) the front will be sat on the floor, Pain the the bum to compress the springs :/

Any spare time , il be working on prepping the spare set of 16v bumpers i have , also fitting a air intake into the front and smoothing it over.

While doing other work , will soak the head again in oven cleaner (worked really well to get the top layer off)

Also need to find the right socket to get the new spark plugs in!

Hopfully in the coming weeks this will take off..

Back end is looking much better already!

Thanks.

Been doing things which you never really notice.

Such as cleaning the engine bay up, Putting little things right witht the interior. Cleaning it, preping the wiring ready for everything to go in.

Now some of thats done hopfuly now it will take off. Once its the way i want it. I can get hold of a compressor and start spraying bits candy red (changed my mind) and go with red/white theme and it will really start to change.

I'll get round to do the roof lining at some point and some other bits and pieces.

Also need to order my pressed plates , the old plastic ones where worse then my trainers i had when i was about 7 , Toes used to poke through... i used to love my old star wars trainers.... offtopic

Nothing like an old pair of shoes though!

It's the small things that make the difference on a car though

Nice man! you are only up the road from me, I'm in fleet. Give me a shout if you want a hand! I've got some special spray that removes the gunk under bumpstrips dead easy if u wanna borrow it?

Do share the secret? Had a nightmare de stripping my mates loop.

my mate works in a bodyshop and he gave me this polish spray stuff. I cant remember what its called but he swears by it, ill have to get the name

You spray it on and it comes out almost like glue, but it doesnt damage the paint whatsoever. Leave it on for 2 mins, literally wipe away all the bumpstrip with a credit card. Piece of piss. I was unbelieveably impressed at how easy it was after spending an hour and a half doing one side of my mk3.

Also halfords sell sticky stuff remover, which although not as good as the stuff I used, does the job suitably. If not a fudge wheel on a drill is always your best option. Get them from ebay, literally take it right off.

You'l have to get the name of what you use :).

I'm going to rip one off and see how many chemicals i can use on it to remove it. If its too hard i'll leave and get on with the back badges and front coilies.

I'm just hoping that one of many packages arives today which means i can get on with other things :)

@richoco , I picked up car up in guilford from SeAutoworks

i actually live in farnham :)

cars looking tidy mate

  • Author

Ahh sweet , so your both about 15 - 20 miles away from me :)

I'm @ RG22 5LF

Just ripped the bump strips off and badges .... theres a ton of glue and crap left.

Spent nearly an hour trying to find a 7.0 allen key (think thats what i need) to get the mount undone and i just can bloody find one. So i ripped the back boot pannel off and got the wiper off insted.

When ever i need to find a tool to do somthing , although we have it its no where to be seen. Almost asif it just walks off by its self..

EDIT:

the dash blank that elie_n on here sent me for FREE arived. Ripped it open and cut a new hole :)

As the post came my LED and wireing all came so I've soldered up a LED ready to go onto the alarm system , when thats in.

Who at SE Autoworks did you get it from? Phil?

haha I know them really well! When I worked at Euro car parts in Guildford they one were of my biggest customers. Used to go round there and hang out after work

Also, Richoco, i always forget your so close! We should do polo shit soon! Theres noone in fleet with a love for polos!

EDIT:

I just realised that I remember them sorting this car out, if its the same one? Came to them with a knackered gearbox which they replaced then serviced it if i remember correctly? If its the same mate thats weird, i ordered all the bits for it!
