as far as tax goes if the car your driving has tax then thats it insurers dont ask if the car is tax n tested, i wouldnt worry bout it mate

The problem is does the DVLA know the car is scrapped. If they don't you are still liable for that car.. even if it doesn't exist.

Surley it would be cheaper just to put you on as a named driver on your girlfriends polo?

As above :-) - but you could keep the existing insurance going and build up your No-Claims unless you have claimed already.

tax reminder through the post the other day so despite it being a scrapped car it's still insurable :-D :-) :-D

I think you are missing the point slightly... you are Liable/registered keeper for a car that you no longer have. You are now either going to have to SORN the car or Tax it every 12 months. If you do neither you will get fined. And from what I've heard about the DVLA they are a pain in the arse to sort this kind of things out even when they have the appropate paper work. People who have done the correct thing and gave the V5 to the scrap people have still been fined due to the DVLA being the DVLA.

Plus there is a small chance that your insurance could be invalid as your insuranced on are car that not longer exists to me that would invalidate your insurance. I do believe its int your insuracne T&C's to let your insurance now if you scrap the car. Also the insurance databases are linked so there is again a chance that th,e scrapping of your car is recorded and linked to the insuracne database.

I think there is quite a bit of risk involved in what you are doing and in worse case you could crash your girlfriend car and not be insured.. I'm sure that would go down well.

On a side not have you checked your insurance covers you for driving other cars?

When the ELV site (scrappy) notify's DVLA that your czr hae been depoluted and safely disposed of I'm sure they will cotten on if you try to sorn , also i would guess that your insurance would be void even if you did sorn it as you cant drive a car legally with no tax (unless going to and from an MOT station). Long story short dont take the risk of losing you licence to save a few pennies on a new policy.

i wouldn't be driving a car with no tax as the tax has expired and that is why the dvla sent me a tax renewal form it was the insurance side of things i was looking into as my policy covered me to drive other vehicles third party but as it goes my insurance has now been changed over so i am the main policy holder on the girlfriends polo and she's the named driver only one policy betwen the 2 of us and i'm still fully comp to drive other cars plus my premium went down happy days cheers guys for all your comments
