Gunky oil cap

Featured Replies

I've just noticed a creamy mayonnaise texture gunk on my oil cap!!! D: I've heard horror stories on this, should I get a new gasket? Also a month or so back, one of my cylinder head bolts snapped off as i was tightening it.. maybe the seal wasn't so tight and caused this? I don't really know. Someone please tell me my car isn't dying :-(

My friend says he has a thread extractor tool, so we're gonna try that soon, then just get another bolt from the scrappy.. dyou reckon this would sort out the gunk? ):

Thanks for any replies, I have my MOT start of December Ahhhhhh!!

Don't bother buying bolts from a scrapyard, you can get new headbolts from GSF they are not that expensive.

why did you have the head off before?

why did you have the head off before?

To polish the rocker cover, the third bold snapped as I was putting it back on :(

lol that's a rocker cover bolt... slightly different :)

do you drive if often on long distances?

They aren't the head bolts. I was getting a bit worried when you were suggesting you snapped a head bolt and carried on anyway. Is it leaking oil? If not, then don't worry.

Go take the car for a proper run and check your oil cap afterwards, should have cleared up.

Oh god! Sorry guys haha I'm learning alright!

and no not really, at the moment just been doing a lot of short journeys. I'll give it a proper drive tomorrow, see if it's all ok.

And no oil leaking that I can see.. I just wanna get a new 'rocker cover bolt' so I have a better piece of mind when I'm driving it hahah

Cheers for the help guys.
