do not just fibreglass/filler, it will sink/crack within days/weeks of being done, they need plastic welding properly

get a spare 8v rear bumper, cut a plate out and use a soldering iron to melt it into place...this does work as its been done, if you use the search, theres quite a few threads on this with some detailed instructions

shouldn't use fibreglass tbh, it doesn't stick too well to plastic and it actually sinks more than filler does and can crack very easily

when i do them i plastic weld in the plastic, use a flexible bumper filler for the first skim and just a thin skim of filler/top stop after that

so am i right in saying once i have welded the plastic in place go over it with fibre glass let that set then skim it with filler or shall i just not bother with fibre glass and weld the plastic and use body filler to smooth it of then coat in primer and get it colour coded ?

On my 16V one I used a Heat Gun on the back of the recess and pushed the Recess outwards once heated instead of Plastic welded something in. Do Not heat so much that the recess starts to melt - only needs to be warmed.

If you do it this way, use Lots of Fibreglass on the back of the bumper where you have pushed out the Recess to strengthen to up again.

I then used Filler to get part of the shape and sanded so the Recess now follows the lines of the bumper.

Mine hasnt cracked or anything and looks good :-)

that sounds adventurous think id rather plastic weld than melt and most probably snap the bumper knowing my luck

My one was smoothed by using a 8v rear bumper

use an 8v rear and cut out a section to plastic weld into the front recess, using the 8v rear will mean the shape will be very close once you've plastic welded it into the front bumper and will only need a thin skim of filler

same, mine was done with a 8v bumper the body shop when i took it too him said he wouldnt have to cut my old bumper but its so much easier to use the 8v so in the end he used it lol then plastic weld ..
