Clocks, transponder, ECU, loom, keys, driveshafts?..

Brakes might be a good idea. :p

Little bit more to it than just the engine/box...

First of all, make sure that you have the correct wiring inside the car to have the engine loom plug straight into the back of the fusebox.

The fuseboxes and interior loom colours changed as did the clock styles between, say a 1998/1999 valver and a pre 1997 valver.

If your car is a 1997 car it should have an older style fusebox which means you need to find the correct loom to mate it up with it.

Also, i had a problem when i did a valver conversion into a later spec 6N (1998) the ecu looses it's ability to hold the immobilisor code once taken out of the vehicle- even when matched with the immobilisor box/key...it still didnt start and had to be recoded by vw (not expensive, but they had to hook it up to the VW mainframe to access the code).

One way or another, ensure you have the following:

Engine,

Exhaust manifold, downpipe, lambda probe, cat, mid+centre+back boxes,

All ancilleries (pipes, cables- acc and clutch),

Gearbox,

Driveshafts with front hubs (including discs, pads, calipers and carriers/brake lines),

Full engine bay loom,

ECU,

Key (or chip from key),

Ignition immobilisor aerial (black plastic ring with thick black wire sits around ignition switch),

Immobilisor box (hidden under dash usually above the fusebox),

Fuel Pump from 16v,

Clocks,

Radiator+Fan,

ALL engine mounts- both drivers and passengers needs changing but dogbone mount is the same.

If you are giving this a go, it's easier to remove the dash and install the complete steering column from the donor car so you end up using the 16v key to start the car and can also re-route all wiring properly.

Pete...just make sure you take EVERYTHING from the valver...full internal and external wiring...ecu and related parts and all mechanical apart from stuff your 1ltr already has: rear beam, wishbones/subframe etc.

^^^^^ the man speaks absolute sense....I've just done this conversion but after chatting with people like Dubbprince about conversions i decided to buy an entire car to use...my car has now been re-wired internally and externally and has a 16v engine...it was an easy swap as we had a donor car!!!

just buying the parts individually is going to make the conversion take longer as you will come across parts that you need but dont have!!

Cheers mate thats brill, so basicly get a whole car and that way you will have everything. Ok cheers guys :-)

I'm thinking of doing the same thing.... but putting it on bike carbs at the same time, to save having to re do the wiring twice.

Is this sensible? or is it better just to get the valver in... and then think about carbs later?
