Higram the '91 GT

Featured Replies

I've decided to go a bit more old skool and picked up a GT last week :)

It's done 75k and is really solid. It has a couple of car park dents, but nothing that can't be sorted. Arches are mint, and the underside is cleeeaan as hell!

Spec:

'91 Polo GT on 75k

4-2-1 stainless manifold

custom stainless decat centre section

Powerflow backbox

Plans:

Hit it with the lowering stick

Stage 3 subframe with uprated gearbox mount

Mk1 GT sidestripes

New wheels ;)

New interior

More powahhh

256mm brake upgrade

Pics:

Got it down to the pit on the night I picked it up. Fitted new tie rod end due to a split boot with the help of Saf and Ad

So yeah, plans are to sort out the bodywork and chassis over winter/spring, and then sort out the power next summer ;)

Also, my bike carbed 6n is for sale at the moment. For sale thread here:

My Vectra calipers and carriers are sat ready to be repainted, and am just waiting for my discs and pads to turn up now. Stage 3 subframe is hopefully going on in the new year, then it's time for a couple of trackdays :D

Also, I'll just leave this here :) Should be alright until I get my Steffans finished

Busy weekend ahead I think :)

PPS Stage 3 subframe with uprated rear gearbox mount, and a 256mm brake upgrade using Vectra 16v carriers/calipers along with Mk2 Golf GTi discs. Should give me enough time to bed them in before a track day at Oulton Park at the beginning of February!

Interestingly your frames slightly different to the one stuart built for me, the rear mounts on yours only wrap around the one side where as mine are on both sides (i'll try and find a pic, will make more sense)

Also, you got the right shoulder bolts to go with those callipers? If not you can get them off ebay pretty cheap

Hmm, I'll speak to Saf and see what his is like. We ordered them at the same time so should be identical really. I've not had a look at fitting it yet, does the wrap around bit do anything?

And yeah I've got some high tensile shoulder bolts for the carriers. Just need to get some washers and brake fluid now.

I cant imagine it makes a difference, it braces off the inner part anyway (it just makes it a hell of a lot easier to fit yours too, which is probably the reason he's changed the design)

Also get yourself some rubber boots from ebay or rally deisgn for the rose ball joints and fill them full of grease!

higram is a spoilt bitch  looking good tez get it all fitted !

 higram is a slag.

Getting my steffans back from the refurbers on Friday as well :ninja: New rubber should be arriving today

jus seen the sub frames your gonna be puttin on, looks mint dude!

jus woundering where could i get 1 from n how much are they roughly?

yeh mine is the same man, tez and dan. he hasnt mentioned to me, but your probably right dan about the reasoning for changing the design, it will make an already easy to fit subby, even easier!

i asked about dust boots and stuart is going to send us some over. I'm not sure if you would want to fill them full of grease though, i always thought they are pre sealed full of some type of grease or bearing compound, and that they are for life, so i think the dust jackets will be sufficient on thier own.

ill know for sure at the weekend when i replace the old subframe for a new one at the weekend, as that one has been fitted for around 3-4 years ago, is running dust jackets and still handles like the nuts so the rose-joints must still be in good working order. ill let you know if they were greased or not =]

FREAK - thats the correct link above by Tez, price varies slightly if you want an uprated gearbox mount shown in the picture. if you have a few mates that want a subframe too, he can sort you a little discount. you can have it painted pretty much any colour, and type (loads of metallic and special paints) at no extra! really is a top guy is stuart

steffans will look rude as fuck ! in white ? :ninja:;)

  • Author

shh you're ruining it! haha, yeah in white. they are coming back on tuesday if i get time to pick them up. too much uni work and exams at the minute meant that i didn't get the brakes and subby fitted either :(

Dude what exactly did you use for your brake conversion? Cheers ben

  • Author

Ben, have a look in the braking section and there's an FAQ on it. Basically though, Vectra calipers, carriers, pads and flexi hoses with Mk2 Golf GTi 16v discs. You'll need some shoulder bolts as well.

Just picked these back up from the refurbers. They've done an amazing job considering the state of them when I dropped them off!

179433_10150385304005384_606115383_16896

Can't wait to wax them up and get them on :ninja:

cheers dude seen the FAQ yesterday but there seems to be confusion on the flexi hoses lol do i use the vetra ones or the standard ones cheers ben
