Weird accident circumstances..story time

Featured Replies

hey.

heres a little story for you all.

month or so ago, i was out with my mate, and basically, my mate missed a red light at a cross roads, and we had a collision witha modified golf mk4.

the people we hit rang the police, they said if theres no injuries they didnt need to come out, just exchange details.

but then just as we were leaving the scene, they flagged down a passing police car.

both cars were drivable.

my mates had a damaged wing, headlight, bumper & slam pannel. the golf had a broken bumper.

so the police breathalysed, and ran insurance checks.

both cars came back as insured, we went our own ways etc.

speaking to my mate, he then said the lads fixing his car himself, not claiming, and will pay himself.

i found this was weird.

just speaking to my mate again, the other lad hadnt declared his mods, and has been done for invalid insurance, fined and 6 points, for an accident that wasnt his fault and wasnt claiming on insurance.

he was insured with elephant btw, who are cheap to declare mods anywho.

so ok, my mate made a genuine mistake, but the other lads effectively came off worse.

makes you think.

dont really know why I'm writing this,

just bored really,

but I'm sure someone will comment/moan etc :D

Saying that , the only thing i declared was coilovers (performance)

Although i was running alloys which could be conisered performance, lights ect :paranoid:

So i was in the wrong there.

just got an update on this, like more details.

basically after the accident, the lad in the golf went to put a claim in, and as soon as the insurance assesor turned up at his house to have a look he said oh whats this bodykit, whats these wheels, etc. so he got done, my mate spent £200 and fixed his own car, his insurance were aware of an accident but it hasnt changed for him.

gutted for not declaring haha

Ouch, if your gonna go down the route of not declaring and have an accidet. You would atleast try cover up your ass when they come out. Put standard stuff back on like cosmetic stuff. WHeels etc. Joker

you dont have to crash to get caught with undeclared mods, the police can just stop you and phone your insurer.

yeah you dont have to crash, but i bet most people that get caught are by havig an accident.

Its why all the cool kids are going OEM+.

too right

Protip: Set the car alight after accidents.

Or dont be a dumb fuck and try your luck with the insurance company when you have obvious modifications.

yeah such as an r32 conversion haha, he was claiming cause we broke intercoolers, not just his bumper :p

but still, if you crash, you may not be in a state to be able to drive away, and as soon as the police are there it makes everything loads more awkward + people can take pictures road side etc

So how did the lad get points for it? Did his insurance company tell the police?

technically he's driving with invalid/no insurance... so that'll be 6 points.

I'm putting a g40 in my 6n does any one no who i can insure it with on low millage as i have a daily aswell, the down side is i have had a crash which was my fault but when rang insurunace to change my insurance they didnt ask so dont no what happened with the claim etc if one went through or not

try brentacre,

and greendragon, its against the law to withhold information, your insurance will ask you for any claims and accidents with the last 5 years, whether you've claimed or not!

ha shit bust for the mk4 golf driver lol

we all try our luck at this at some point, I've just renewed my policy with adrian flux and have declared everything, including the change in interior light colours, I've got a like for like policy so i definately want my car putting back to the way it is if someone hits me.

tbf though, cant see how your mate has got away with this as he ran a red light and caused an accident, pretty sure that that is an offence in its own right!!

whats the info on this mk4 golf, be interesting to see if its over on ed38 and see the thread lol

i kno i insured mine with the same company again and they dint ask me i just thought they would no as i been with them since i started driving

nah i dont think hes into the scene tbh, i asked him and he was like no no dont go any shows or meets or anything lol.

fuck knows, accident happened, police were called, they said if theres no injuries they dont need to come out, just fill out a self report form. then after exchanging details we were about to leave a police car was passing and the passenger of the golf flagged it down (driver did NOT look impressed!) they asked what had gone on, then i disappeared to sainsburies to get some alcohol to go with the kfc we had just bought haha.

came back out my mate was waiting for me, other lad and police had gone, he just said they breathalysed, ran an insurance check and took a few notes incase needed in future, not really sure what the crack is tbh.

are flux and brentacre quite similar? can you just get a power limited policy and no charges for cosmetic mods etc?

Flux are awesomely helpful if you drive a modified vw.. the older the better it would seem. They've never said never, obviosly they use a good selection of underwriters.. one being marketstudy (iirc) who had no problem insuring a polo genesis with a g40 engine.. cost no more than a genuine G40 either.

My mk1 golf with flux last year was 240 quid all in inc gayboy key cover for a 5 door 1093cc on coilies, uprated brakes and aftermarket wheels and tyres. 3 yrs no claims. 1 claim in last 5 years. 23 yrs old.

I have a feeling it'll be a smidge more this year :-(

I'm gonna be 19, 2 years no claims, 1.4 8v 6n with wheels, coilies, leather seats different door cards etc, different lights and bumpers, but i want to change cam exhaust and run on bike carbs so need someone flexible!

Give em a shout, they are modified friendly. Also I believe they give a cp discount.
