Last ever issue of Max Power

Featured Replies

I aint no expert Alex if i was i'd be doing your job, if i was an expert i would think about re-naming the mag.

Although the only thing i could always remember from when my mate used to buy maxpower was the birds! and i dont mean the ones with wings.

No that's fine - it's just starting to grate hearing people saying what's wrong with the mag when usually (as in this case) they're not right.

There's a long and complicated list of reasons behind the mag closing. Very few of them have come up on here, or elsewhere this weekend. What I have seen a lot of is misjudged opinions and people guessing stuff that went on behind the scenes.

Thats a bit strong!

I'm just gone 16 and this is my car

Hardly chav-tastic and I want a 6n next

And if your ever on vagdrivers.net (irish forum) theres about 10 of us on it with cool dubs before we got out licences so I dont think its fair to tar all of us with the one brush

When did I mention Council-House-Adolescent-Vermin?

And you kinda make me laugh with "cool Dubs". How hugely uncool to have a "cool Dub". Thats like following the crowd, a bit like people were doing with bodykits, 20" rims and massive subs back in the 90's.. just now it's; silly low, wide wheels and stretched tyres.. oh and some shit stickers like "Wheel Whores". Someone told me how much they paid for one of these stickers recently!! I laughed hard.

No way....

I'm actually gob-smacked!

This is something i never expected to see :(

He era of the fast and the furious is dead

Have any of you slating max power read it recently?

Bodykitted cars with flaming exhausts are a rarity... You don't know what you are talking about

So is the mag completely dead then, or are figures just being monitored, and if they don't improve it'll be scrapped?

In my opinion, which is not a professional opinion. I think the whole situation could be changed by some good Marketing, but i presume Automotive Magazines, especially Modified orientated magazines just don't have the budgets, unlike your Supercar style Magazines.

But still, as I've said somewhere before, the Magazine has a reputation that it needs to not necessary shake off, just show that it has moved on with the times.

But like said, I guess there is never going to be a future for magazines anymore, which is surprising to me. Since out of any link of Magazines I'd expect the Marques specific magazines to be struggling. Since after all, we know where to find the build threads.

i remember wanting a 12 Bore kit on a MK5 fiesta :ninja:

i wanted a delta kitted escort. not sure wether thats better or worse :!

all it needs are venoms...

people pay for them? I thought they came free with brightly painted standard steels?

some people in this thread clearly haven't picked up a copy in years.

Good luck in finding work alex. Sure it wont be long for you

aha their was an ace feature in max power

does anyone remember the 205 GTI with the cover sayin 'OLD DOG NEW TRICKS'

that is probably the best read i had even by the standards on here

Thanks!

And I hope people remember what's happened to Max next time they pop into WHSmith, pick up their favourite mag, read it, put it back and leave. :-(

i've never bought a copy in my life but i'm gonna make an exception and buy this one!

as neil said, good luck alex! you'll find work in no time!

i remember back in the day when i was in yr7 at high school there was a mk1 clio iirc with actual lexus lights fitted to it. loved it lol

r.i.p max power, magazines aint really my thing but its a shame to see it go!

It needed re-naming years ago.

The last copy i bought had a feature bonded into it that you had to tear open along a perforated outer page to access the pages - all of Jordan with her tits out,in fact showing almost everything including pubic hair. Put me off for life tbh, if i wanted porn i would've bought some a bit better quality.

Typical cars at the time were unrecognisable from the outside but for the pillars and had more games consoles inside than the Japanese electronics museum - seriously,it was just shit and if it'd been re-invented under a new name then it wouldn't still carry this reputation.

everyones bangin on about the shit cars and ugly slappers that were in max power during the late 90s and ealy 00s, but tbf max power started off as being one of the better reads. It was fastcar and revs which really pushed the soft porn aspect.

Tbh I'm not surprised its gone. I think its a trend thats going to continue, as they just dont make sense anymore, when you can just log onto the net and find pretty much anything you want.

Retrocars mag is an interesting example though. was a great magazine, full of info and great cars, obviously didnt sell well, went bust, then, was brought back by the people who make PVW, not half as good as it was before, half the info, twice the glam scene pics, yet it seems to sell.

Good luck finding another job Alex, unfortunately it's not a great time to be unemployed right now

As for the mag, it has changed with the times but I guess it's been a victim of the economic situation and the rise of the internet. I read an editorial in PVW a few months back in which the editor claimed that the mag had such a sturdy fan base they could put whatever on the cover and it would still get bought. Maybe Max didn't have this fanbase anylonger or its readers were just affected by the economy more than buyers of other more specialist mags.

who's he trying to kid??

although credit where credits due, i doubt many other magazine editors would dare insult their entire fan base like that :smirk:
