deleted front indicators

Featured Replies

I have been thinking about getting rid of the indicators from my wings so that i have a flatter front end look like a vento/bora look :D but I'm wondering what do i do to have indicators on the front of my car and how do the laws work for this?

Thanks

theres a dude with a 6n polo van down my way . he has the indicators behind the grill

There is a legal minimum distance from the outer edge of the car that the indicators must be, if you Google the" SVA test" that kit cars and grey imports have to pass, this will list all the "legal" lighting positions

well things like ford focus with the lights right on the inside and pug 206's they have their lights closest to the grille so surely it must mean ill have to put the indicators in there or could i put them maybe on my lower grille? id like to see what someone else has done before, its a strange thing really with the laws on this

Hi, just been trawling through the various VOSA, DVLA, & gov sites and finally found this on http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/schedule/7/made

Basically, The front indicators must be a Maximum of 400mm from the front egde of the vehicle and seperated by a minimum of 500mm if the overall width of the vehicle is greater than 1400mm if less than 1400mm then the minimum distance is reduced to 400mm and there is a min & max height requirements and a min seperation distance from headlight beams!!

All in all you almost need to be a lawyer to fully interpretate the requirements !!!

damn i thought that i could probobly mount the light inside the headlamp, or maybe i could make a cut out in my front grill surround to fit LED indicators, would this be legal? ill post photoshoped pics later to what i would do explaining how id do it too i need to see what other people have previously done and i need to find a set of wings!

Just dismantled a spare standard 6N headlight and measured it up!! and you could, as far as I can see, legally fit several Orange LED's inside the area's within the red line.

i just worry if LED's will be bright enough to shine past the headlamps beam or would it look quite feignt compared and surely my LED's would need to be extremely powerful?

iv seen them in headlights before. mercedes e class are. all i would do is block off the parts you want to fit led so when the lights are on the led wont get distorted with the bulb beams

Yeah mate just fit then in the bottom corner of the headlight its been done on here a dude with a dragon green 6n on schmidts had his indicators deleted looked mint

may also need a bit of persuasion down the seem under wheel arch where the 2 fixings by door are as are bonded too

  • Author

will i need to replace these bonds or does it not matter? id expect it would take some persuasion after 15 years on the car  I'm gunna pick up a set of wings and lights asap when i get a day off ill pop down the scrapyard

nah i think it might just be there as a vibration thing. well i took a wing off a car at a scrappy and that came off fairly easy, just stuck something inbetween and gently pryed it off!

i get you gently ;), with the headlamps I'm going to trial LEDS first to see how i can get it going, anyone who has put leds into a normal car power cable (like the indicator bulb plug etc) any help with how to do that would be brilliant :)

You could try these?? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT

If your gonna use LEDs you'll have to fit a resistor to simulate a normal bulb being installed or you'll have fast flashing indicators like a bulb has blown

  • Author

i may buy them LED bulbs as they seem like they would work quite well but would i need a resistor for that it will that be ok?

As it says in the advert they are a direct replacement for the "normal" indicator bulb so I can't see any need for a resistor?

surely they flash fast on open circuit rather than a resistance threshold?
