Weight reduction?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Sorry if this is hard to read - I'm doing it off my blackberry.

So I've been driving for about 6 months now and I love my diddy little 1.0L :D I can overtake cars and lorries fairly easily, but still do need a fair bit of space and do need to rev the bollocks off it in order to do so, and since I have no funds to buy performance 'mods', I'm wondering where I can save weight on the car. I've been used to lugging around my 12" subwoofer around in the boot, but I've done the obvious and taken that out, and the spare tyre, but I'm wondering where else I can save weight. Has anybody stripped theirs at all? Info/your opinions are appreciated :) thanks,

Honestly dude, and this is just my opinion.. it's never going to be fast..

You might be able to make it a bit lighter by stripping it out, but then you're left with an underpowered car with no back seats for picking up birds or mates, no spare tyre for when and if you get a puncture, and no sub for banging out tunes..

Plus if you're having to rev the tits off the little thing to overtake cars and lorries then you've obviously found it's limit.. I think if you can't overtake comfortably and easily, don't try..

Just my view anyway, I stripped out the back of my first car, Mk3 Polo Coupe, and put it all back in after a week.. it was louder, colder, no faster, and I couldn't have people in the back or turn the bass up on decent songs..

Even if you had the money to buy 'performance mods' I'd still not bother. Its a 1.0L, no matter what you do it will always be poop and slow. Just put up with it till you get something better.

totally agree with smithy, the con's far out weight the pro's, with the power you have you wouldn't even notice the difference other then more road noise making it sound 'faster' than it is. just stack it up with system to enjoy and get some dirty sluts in the back to ruin, you won't even care about trying to make a 1 liter faster then

unless you're any relation to phil jackson? in which just strap a g-ladder to the 1.0l and you will be fine...

taking the seats out is a bit pointless unless your on a track were every millisecond counts.

as said it will make it noisier and less comfortable also shagging in the front is not as good as the back.

Don't even bother trying, a 1.0L is always going to be painfully slow...Just grit your teeth and make it look good

Just fill it with speakers and drive past the local girls school at about 3 pm listening to bassline.

Hahaha, tbh you're all right...I liked it a lot more when the sub was in there :D Smashin out some DnB :D I think i'll just put everything back in then, although i have noticed a slight increase in acceleration, i haven't noticed any increase in mileage to a tenner (might be that i'm accelerating hard a lot), but hey, seats needed a clean anyway after some mates spilt jager bombs in the back >.<

Thanks for your input, it's helped me stick to a decision :)

I'd strip it out to be honest, everything bar the dash, heater, door speakers and drivers and passenger seat.

1. You don't have to waste petrol ferrying mates about,

2. You can get lifts off people more often because you can only take 2 people in your car and its 'impractical' (easy way of making sure you can drink if you go down the pub :D),

3. You can still have sex with a lass in it,

4. Better fuel economy,

5. Better acceleration,

6. Less wear and tear on other components (tyres, brakes etc),

7. You can fit a shitload of shopping in the back.

I did it to my GT and noticed a fairly large difference, especially in fuel economy, 5 up in my GT and it drank fuel like there was no tomorrow.

Just keep all the stuff you take out and put it back in when you sell it!

I'd still gladly pay the extra fuel costs if it meant I could shag birds on a warm comfy back seat while listening to some bass-heavy RnB when ever I wanted..

x2 who needs to go fast when you can fill you car with slags

Hahaha some funny comments there :p made me chuckle.

Tell you'll what tho....Bloody good thing i put everything back in! If i didn't have my spare tyre, i'dve been stuck 30 miles from home! :(

shagging in the front is not as good as the back.

I dunno - I'm too tall so the fronts easier

Why is everyone suddenly shagging in there cars ? get a fucking room!

A house is much more comfy than a back seat so strip it all out. If u really want to shag in your car buy a camper or something.

A mk2/2f is a waste of time even trying, gave up and used the bonnet.. much easier

Wouldn't fancy it in this weather mind..

Come on....There is no where near eough room in a 6n to have a decent shag is there :p - With everything stripped there is enough to sort of lie down, still, i'd rather be on at least a bed or something!

Just fill it with speakers and drive past the local girls school at about 3 pm listening to bassline.

Isn't that when the primary school kids get out though?! I'm sure there's laws against that! :p

I've never had sex in the back! :( I'm too lazy to move, so the front'll do..

I was just about to post a reply to this saying you'll regret taking the spare wheel out one day! 8-)
