Just spoke to the parents.

I want to go STUIPED LOW on my project 16v i have plonked on the drive.

My last 6n got grounded on the drive a few times wound all the way down.

My dad suggested getting air ride. This really would ad a kick to the car!

Are there any drawbacks in having air ride

- Any common faults

- Legal issues? (new MOT laws & controls taken into consideration)

- servicing ?

A rough estimated price for an air ride kit?

Around 1k > 1.2k?

Just somthing to raise / lower the car for bumps so not a high presure system

For a decent air ride kit you are looking at atleast 2.5k.

In my opinion completely pointless on a Polo for a number of reasons.

- it is easy to stance a Polo without it

- it will probably be worth more or atleast half the value of the car

You only need air on a bigger car such as a Golf because there is a chance of it getting grounded with the wheels being further apart and also it is much harder to stance a car with the bigger wheels.

There are no legal issues and common faults tend to be bags popping if they are rubbing on something or the valves coming loose. You also need to drain excess water in the air lines every now and again.

Another draw back is that you can't go really fast round corners on them coilies ftw

not bad price but to be honest i am not sure what i am looking at when it comes to air suspension and it could be a shit kit? but thought i would give you the site so you could have a look

think i will just keep coils!! :p i keep hearing you can do chassis notch and raise sub frames and change engine mounts and get smaller sump not sure if this is true? as i am a newbie to this but i am looking and trying to find info on this sort of stuff first cos this my be a cheaper alternative? but dont take my word for it :p

Course you can.

You just buy a 4 way system which is what most people get nowadays, not a 2 way system.

Think you'll find most people on coilovers can't go fast at all because their cars (like mine) are far too low to go fast over U.K. roads which is why I'll definitely be getting air on my next car because it will be fast.

I ruined my other car , due to the fact theres speed bumps around my area.

Just to get to my girlfriends house i have to go down a road staggered with about 12 speed bumps

Carry on , then when I'm in her area i will hit about 7 sets of speed bumps, Theres no way my old car would pass an MOT due to the ammount of damage to the underside.

All the way down it also gets stuck on my drive also on the way down the drive.

Might just have to wind them down but not all the way.

Good point about the value , Just had a thought , if the car was ruined , modding back upto what it will be wont cost near 2.5k + can take the interior ect out and swap..

Still in two minds about it though , Maybe at a later date.

I'd rather crash on speedbumps.

Speedbumps shouldn't damage the car if you take them slowly.

I run my car as it is daily and manage to get over all speedbumps completely fine, although I did smash my cat up two weeks ago

I honestly think airride is a bit drastic though just for the sake of some speedbumps. I would change wheels or raise the car a tad before resorting to something like air.

also hydraulics can be made very comfortable ask tony100, he may also still be able to make a kit for you!

airride/hydro systems are great! also you will be able to sell it on and they can be modified to fit other cars, if you want it get it mate! will open up a whole world of options regarding wheels etc!

I too have toy'd with the idea of air ride for my 6n but looked into the kits and it seemed to be around 2k for the kit and then a further 1k on installation, and it's really important they're set up correctly, bit of scraping never hurt anyone! After all if you ain't rubbin you ain't dubbin! Coilies all the way!
